Dixie Chicks Jab at Mel Gibson in N.Y.

The Dixie Chicks have made it clear -- they're not ready to make nice. The group proved that by their choice of opening music last night at New York City 's Madison Square Garden. As the best-selling female group of all time took the stage, their backing band played -- no kidding -- 'Hail to the Chief.' Laughter and applause filled the Garden, proving there are country fans who support the Chicks' political outspokenness.

But politics were not on the remaining agenda for the night, as the Chicks brilliantly tore through new songs from their million-selling album, 'Taking the Long Way,' as well as old hits like 'Goodbye Earl,' 'Cowboy Take Me Away' and 'Wide Open Spaces.'

The Chicks elicited more laughter as lead singer Natalie Maines dedicated the humorous 'White Trash Wedding' to Mel Gibson, sarcastically praising the actor for checking into rehab.

"You know how it is when you're drunk," she said, in reference to Gibson's anti-Semitic rant during his DUI arrest last week. "All of our controversy would have been over if I had checked myself into rehab and said I was drunk and didn't know what I was saying."

I am embarrassed to be from Texas, too, because that is where the Dixie Chicks are from!

Just kidding, I am not from Texas.
It is ok to voice your opinion, but don't do it in a concert. People paid for musical entertainment, not political entertainment. I used to like them.
Now, I can not stand to listen to them. Imagine how many people went to their concert to hear them and did not agree at all with what they said. How do you think that made them feel?
For those of you who support them, look at it from a different point of view. What if they said they were proud to be from Texas and supported the president and you did not feel this way? How would you feel or react when you spent money to hear them sing not voice their opinion?
There is a time and place for everything. They were wrong and they lost a lot of fans.

Did anybody stop to think that maybe Mel was really upset and reacting to the headline news about the Isralies bombing that house full of people---including women and children. That's my theory about Mel's tirade that night.

I went to Europe this summer. Any time I was asked where I was from, I would answer, "I'm from Texas and I'm ashamed of him, too." Natalie for President!!!

I just wish if the entertainers of today are so bent on hating our government, our elected officials and our country in general ---then they should by all means move.

Well, if the Dixie Chicks can express their opinions than so can I and the rest of America.. they suck and so does their music! As far as expressing their opinions about our President, the problem wasn't the fact that they expressed their opinions which they and everyone else is entitled to, the problem is they did it in another DAMN country!! The peoples gripe with them is that they didn't have the BALLS to do it here in the USA! Enough said! And about Mel..I still like the man.. he's done a lot for the US and for the industry, more than RENECK DIXIE blonde bimbettes have.. at least he apologized, can't say the same for those 3 dipwads!

I din't hear the comment about Mel Gibson as a slur on him, I heard the anger that the Dixie Chicks still have at the way the public has reacted to them. When they first made their offending comment they were being American. When people responded to not liking the comments, they were being American. When people made death threats they angered the Dixie Chicks and understandably so. Being "Not ready to make nice" with people who go too far is a lot to get past. Give them time. The discussion they have stirred up is a good thing. It's American.

When will Natalie Maines learn to keep her mouth shut? She seems to think it's ok to bash everyone else when she herself is FAR from perfect. I use to be a fan of the chicks but that went out the window when first they started bashing Toby Keith, the president and everyone else who doesn't agree with her little white trash attitude. Yes, we do have freedom of speech but she has proven once again how true the saying is "Better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".

She is on big FOOL.
