'You Never Even Called Me By My Name'--David Allan Coe (1978)
Cheers-worthy lines: "I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison / And I went to pick her up in the rain / But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck / She got run over by a damned old train."This song isn't primarily about drinking. It's just a helluva lot of fun to sing when you're drunk. ("And I'll hang around as long as you will let me / Let me! Let me! Let me! Let me!")

The song was written by the great Steve Goodman, and Steve's version is much, much better.

Read the lyrics, or better yet, listen to Coe's "If That Ain't Country." He uses the "N" word in the song, and I don't approve, but it fits with the rest of the song and is used as a descriptive phrase rather than a comment.
