If you could change one thing about the country music industry, what would you change?I would say, "Get Dolly Parton back on the radio! Get me back on mainstream! Stop this attitude that older people ain't any good anymore!" We're as good as we ever were, if we ever were any good. [laughs] But I can't complain, because I've had 30 years of success and have won every award that there is to be had. But still, it's as new to me as it was when I first started and just as important. So I wish they would treat some of the great artists with the respect that a lot of them deserve.

Dolly is right. The one thing I really like about what Bill Gaither has done in Southern Gospel Music is to honor those artist that have paved the way for the younger ones and yet they sound as good today as they did 30 years ago. ( Like Dolly even better today!!)
Maybe Dolly could pull a Gaither and get a bunch of the greats together and some of those awesome talents like herself & Reba & George & Loretta and so many others. Dolly you'd make an awesome host for something like that and as much as I love Southern Gospel Music and Bill Gaither you are 100 times prettier than Bill is!!!! LOL!!
Keep singing til the cows come home! Dolly We love You!!

I totally agree with Dolly. I am a broadcaster with 35+ years in the biz and I have been saying for many years that there needs to be a Billboard chart added for "ADULT COUNTRY" and radio stations need to program this format specifically geared towards the older country music listener. For those interested, I'm seeking those who want to invest in launching this format via satellite. Nashville's problem is that it has become such good bed fellows with consultants and the like that the whole emphasis is on selling music to the younger demos and virtually ignoring the older demos. Hence, great artists like Dolly don't get much airplay on mainstream country radio. Nashville and radio are really missing out in my opinion. The older country artists continue to record new material and tour and sell like hotcakes despite the cold shoulder they get from country radio. It's high time for radio to wake up and embrace the alternative format of "ADULT COUNTRY". (Not to be confused with the "CLASSIC COUNTRY" format which usually only features the old recordings of the older artists.) Most of the older artists continue to record NEW material so there is plenty of material to program and the listener base is undeniable. Anyone reading this that agrees with me-- (you too Dolly-- and you too Willie!) write me and let's see if we can make it happen.
Sincerely,RB

I know it is a year later when you wrote this so you probably know the answer. But, in case you don't know, well then, Dolly Parton is the godmother to Miley Cyrus also known as Hannah Montana on Disney's Hannah Montana show.

The state of country music and country radio today is a sham. On the whole it is not country music. I listen to independent radio staions here in Cincinnati. They do play the new music by stars such as Loretta and Dolly. If you have not heard Loretts's Van Lear Rose cd yet give it a listen also. It is the real deal and you may see how the other music today pales in comparision. Go country!

Dolly,
Class "A", #1 to me and always will be. I worked for you for 12 years. What a pleasurable experience. You have me by 6 months. I always did like older women. You fogged up my glasses once when you put your hands on my face and brought yours oh, so close to mine. They are still fogged by the memory. Thank you for all the memories. Keep on keeping on.
Forever,
Ron

Thank you Dolly ... thank you very much!
You are, and you have been, a great inspiration in my almost 62 year old life.
Many times, in what seemed a state of unbearable sadness ... one of your songs would play, one you sang or wrote, and music would come back into my life ... and save me ... once again, from myself.
Bless your big giant heart for all you have given, and the wonderful example you have set!
You are a true red, white, and blue ... united ... American legend!
