George Strait's 'Pure Country' Is Broadway Bound

Country music is returning to the Great White Way. A Broadway musical based on George Strait's 1992 movie, 'Pure Country,' is expected to open in New York sometime next year. The music will be composed by Steve Dorff, who co-wrote two of the biggest hits from the film, 'I Cross My Heart' and 'Heartland.' John Bettis, also a co-writer on 'Heartland,' will pen all of the lyrics.

In the movie, Strait played a country music star named 'Dusty Chandler' who leaves fame and fortune to go back to his roots. There's no word yet on who will bring 'Dusty' to life on Broadway.
