Chris Cagle is speaking out about his recent arrest on domestic assault charges, insisting that he was not drunk."This argument was not elevated nor induced because of my being intoxicated. I've worked too hard and come this far," Cagle told Nashville television station WKRN. "And to prove this, I asked to take a sobriety test and a Breathalyzer test and was denied the opportunity by the police officer on site."
In fact, Cagle told The Boot in our exclusive interview last month that he had quit drinking. Regardless, he still takes full responsibility for his actions.
"I was wrong and I am embarrassed," the singer admits.
Both Cagle and his girlfriend, Jennifer Tant, were arrested last week on misdemeanor domestic assault charges. Police say the two were intoxicated when an argument turned physical. They say Cagle told them Tant hit him on the head with an umbrella, while Tant claimed Cagle hit her with her purse. The two are set to appear in court to face their charges on July 3.

Don't we have anything better than to waste taxpayer's money because they hit each other with apurse and an umbrella. They will more than likely get 10 years ( that is being sarcastic) each and then the doctor that killed his wife in the barn gets 3 years probation. Says a lot doesn't it?????

First and foremost Mr. Cagle, it is not the responsibility of a police officer to prove the elements of a crime to the accused. It is his job to prove those elements to a prosecutor and subsequently a judge. I'm sick of hearing people try to blame the officer because they "asked" for a breath test. Here's a revelation: There are proven signs to intoxication that don't involve a computerized breath test...and my guess is you were both exhibiting a number of them. Second, battery is defined by "unwanted touching of another person in a rude or insolent manner." Now...with that said...quit all of your high paying jobs and go be a cop for a year...then you can talk to me.

knowing how some women pack their purses, hers may have been heavy enough to land him an assault with a deadly weapon charge. if this happened in mayberry andy would have just made them shake hands and told them to behave themselves and grow up a little, but apparently this happened in a town with too many barney fifes.

I am a recently retired police officer in NC and our laws demand an arrest be made in domestic situations if there is an assault. Striking someone with a purse and umbrella, whether or not it causes injury, is an assault. Most states have strict domestic violence laws now, which came about right after the OJ trial, and ours includes emotional and physical abuse. It also includes the destruction of property belonging to either party, etc... I arrested a 16 year old for smashing the front door of his parent's home, while intoxicated, and his mother thought I was joking all the way to the cruiser. She kept telling him that he was in serious trouble, but she was trying to scare him. When I put him in and shut the door, she asked when I'd tell him that I wasn't taking him, and I told her he'd be held for 72 hours (the minimum in this state) and then would appear before a judge. She literally got hysterical. Being a mother of 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl, and having had my own child get arrested while I was working (he was 17 and had picked up two runaway girls ages 15 and 13), I felt sorry for her, but I had to be sure that I followed our laws and also that there would be no more acts of violence at the home that night. The law probably could use some tweaking, but it's fairly rigid in order to have a "cooling off" period between the parties. It includes any co-habitating couple or others, to include those of the same sex, and any relative of a person involved. So, it pretty much covers any domestic situation.
