Chris Cagle Says Booze is Not to Blame for Arrest

Chris Cagle is speaking out about his recent arrest on domestic assault charges, insisting that he was not drunk.

"This argument was not elevated nor induced because of my being intoxicated. I've worked too hard and come this far," Cagle told Nashville television station WKRN. "And to prove this, I asked to take a sobriety test and a Breathalyzer test and was denied the opportunity by the police officer on site."

In fact, Cagle told The Boot in our exclusive interview last month that he had quit drinking. Regardless, he still takes full responsibility for his actions.

"I was wrong and I am embarrassed," the singer admits.

Both Cagle and his girlfriend, Jennifer Tant, were arrested last week on misdemeanor domestic assault charges. Police say the two were intoxicated when an argument turned physical. They say Cagle told them Tant hit him on the head with an umbrella, while Tant claimed Cagle hit her with her purse. The two are set to appear in court to face their charges on July 3.
