Gone Country: Crossover Crooners

When Alan Jackson sang about a Vegas showgirl eying Nashville's greener pastures in 1994's 'Gone Country,' he chronicled a process that goes back to Tony Bennett's cover of Hank Williams' 'Cold, Cold Heart.' Whether out of genuine affection for the genre or to jump-start a flagging career, entertainers from across the musical spectrum have slid on their Stetsons. The Boot counts down the oddest -- and most successful.

Snoop Dogg

The rapper has dedicated his latest song, 'My Medicine,' to Johnny Cash. He also presented at the CMT awards and found a kindred spirit in Willie Nelson. (Whatever they have in common, Snoop admitted that he smokes more of it.) The duo even recorded a duet of 'My Medicine' in Amsterdam; the video also features Brad Paisley and Julianne Hough.

Not that I dislike Snoop Dog, (mainly his OLD stuff) but this is the most rediculus thing I've ever heard! Snoop playing country music? WTF!! If Snoop ever makes country radio play or the country charts that's the day I will forever give up on ALL music, quit DJ'ing country dance clubs, write the record labels with hate mail, and much much more!.. This is VERY sad that people are becomming this ignorant and stupid to even think of the idea of a hardcore RAP star icon being able to crossover into the country market!.. If this kind of CRAP continues we may as well do away with ALL genere's and stop putting labels on music as to what kind of music it is!... Who's next? David Allan Coe mixed up with T-Pain?!!.. *Snoop trying Country crossover, YEAH RIGHT!!.. What a joke... :(
It all biols down to GREED and MONEY! everyone wants a piece of the money tree, and do not care anymore about the talent and what the general music fans want or like!.. What a bunch of C-Rap!

I'm not sure when Darius Rucker became a "country" star, but his music is far from being country music. All he has done is add some mandolin, steel guitar and a few "country" sounding words to his lyrics. His latest music is basically a country version of Hootie and the Blowfish. I wish that the true country music fans would wake up and stop allowing these has been pop stars to make their money on the backs of so-called "country" music...

I do not think people who were pop, rap or whatever should go into country. Country is country.
They only do it because it's the last resort when your a has been in your field. Snoop and others going into country would be as bad as Johnny Cash trying go into rock and roll or rap. I wouldn't by it. Darius don't belong there either. PA-leeeaaassseee just stay where you are. Country music is just fine without the like of rappers and rockers.
