Former 'American Idol' contestant Kristy Lee Cook has signed a record deal with 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville. Cook was the only country-leaning finalist on Season Seven of the hit talent competition. The 24-year-old Oregon native sold her beloved horse in order to pay for transportation to the 'Idol' auditions in Philadelphia. She made it all the way to seventh-place on the show."I've wanted this for so many years," said Cook of recording her first album. "To have the chance to be a country singer -- to make the music I love -- and to have enjoyed the support of so many 'American Idol' fans this past season, it all means more than I can put into words. Thank you so much to everyone. I'll do my best to make you proud!"
Cook is teaming up with famed songwriter/producer Brett James on this first project, tentatively set for release this fall. Her first single, humorously titled '15 Minutes of Shame,' will hit country radio August 11.

I think this is great news! Kristi Lee has a beautiful clear voice that is worthy of a contract. Unfortunately, negative comments from Simon, who is not a country music fan, influenced the minds of many. I loook forward to her new release.

Awesome, that made my Day hearing that Kristy got a recording contract. She should have won and got her recording contract through winning American Idol, I and quite a few others were pulling for her. Congratulations Kristy Way to Go.

OMG her rendition of the Beatles "Eight Days a Week" was a horror. I despise country music. Carrie Underwood/KLC sound alike, which I suppose works for them. Not me. Good luck Kristie, and come up with a song that doesn't involve leavin' your cheatin' man, a baseball bat, or a pickup truck. Good luck with that-NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

We just saw the American Idol tour on stage last week and to the person who said Kristy Lee stunk.....I assure you she has come out being one of the best performers on the tour. She brought the house to their feet when she sang, "I'm proud to be an America". There wasn't a dry eye in the place. That girl will be going places. Besides, she's knock dead gorgeous!

Kristy Lee Cook rocks the show. Not many country folk on the idol tour, but even those who are not country, seemed to love her performance. Just listened to her upcoming song 15 minutes of shame. Can't wait till the whole album is out. It will be amazing. Great job Kristy.

Come on people, 4/5 days is actually a long time. What she is saying of her part in singing these songs in a studio took 5 days, and keep in mind these are 15 hour days more times than not. This does not include the time it takes for her to have her songs completely ready, Sometimes this takes years. Some artist, her included have songs they have wanted out for such a long time, and the selection process is normally done before they even set foot in the studio. The actual recording is simple, these musicians are the best in the world, and have gone over the music and are ready to record.(yes I have been in studios) Those who think this all generic are only showing they know nothing about the industry. Timing, song selection, and so much more go into these albums and that takes time. The actual singing in studio can easily be done in 4-5 days and usually is.
