'God Bless the USA,'Lee Greenwood (1983)
Proudest Lines: "I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today/'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land/God bless the USA"
Though Greenwood wrote this song in 1983, it didn't become a big hit until Desert Storm in 1991, when radio stations embraced it to help boost patriotism. The song re-entered the country charts in 2001 after 9/11.

I heard Lee Greenwood sing this song long before it became popular. It brought chills to my arms and tears to my eyes. Every time I hear it now, I still get tears in my eyes because I am proud to be an American. In this country I have the freedom to say so!!

Anything from Keni Thomas Flags of our Father A Soldiers Story is worthy to be in the top 10.

Toby K. NEVER SERVED. He is a bigotted ex-con who should be in jail for life.

These are not 9/11 songs, they are patriotic-American songs, so the Have you forgotten song doesn't qualify.
The Dixie Chicks should be on top, not for any songs, just for getting "IT" right before anybody else.

there are a lot of great patriotic songs in country music and i am proud that these people feel this strongly about our nation, not many do these days
God has truely blessed the USA!

stephine. You are right on the money. I'm afraid we are GIVING our country away to our enemies. We have no morals left, and pretty soon it will be against the law to even speak against the filth we are being handed by our politician and the devil.
I also love America, and I too will defend her as long as I live.

What happened to Alan Jackson's WHERE WERE YOU-he wrote just after 911? I would think it deserves to be on this list. How mnore patriotic can a song be and so hearfelt for anyone. Just wanted to share my opinion.

These are patriotic songs, not songs wrote from the aftermath of 9-11. That is the reason that Alan Jackson, Daryl Worley, and Toby Keith-Angry American did not make the list. As for whoever thinks these songs were wrote about 9-11, that is not the case. God Bless the USA came out in 1983. Some Gave All came out in the early nineties. In America come out in the seventies/eighties. Ragged Old Flag came out in the sixties. Only In America was out at the time of 9-11. These songs don't talk about anger, they talk about support of our country and the troops that defend our way of life. Everyone should take a listen to these songs. My three favorites on this list are Arlington, Ragged Old Flag, and God Bless The USA.

No mention of Merle Haggard's "Fightin' Side of Me" ?
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me

to Justin - I must be getting old. The "Only in America" I remember was done in 1963 by Jay and the Americans. The song you are referring to around 9-11 must be another different song with the same title.
