Jessica Simpson Booed at Country Thunder

Her first country single, 'Come on Over,' continues to climb the charts, but it appears Jessica Simpson still has an uphill battle ahead when it comes to her country cred. At this past weekend's Country Thunder festival in Randall, Wisconsin, Simpson was greeted by a mixture of boos and cheers as she hit the stage following former 'American Idol' finalist Kellie Pickler.

"I don't know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I'm just a girl from Texas," Simpson told the audience. "I'm just like you. I'm doing what I love and dating a boy."

And it didn't seem to matter that the "boy" to whom she was referring is Wisconsin native and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

"Just because she's dating Tony Romo it doesn't make her country," festival-goer Mike Rodriguez told the Kenosha News. "She doesn't fit in with country, and I'll have to drink a lot of beer to sit through her concert."

In addition to a few tracks from her country debut, 'Do You Know?,' due in September, Simpson offered covers of Nancy Sinatra's 'These Boots Are Made for Walking,' Willie Nelson's 'On the Road Again' and Shania Twain's 'Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?' She also included her pop hit, 'With You' in her set, though she vowed to the crowd that she'd never record another pop album.

Jessica's week is already improving: Dolly Parton, fresh from her European tour, is hitting the studio this week to record vocals on 'Do You Know?,' which she wrote for the singer.

"Not only did she record it, she sang the living daylights out of it," says Parton. "Boy, can she sing. I'm excited and honored that she recorded my song, but equally as excited that I'm going to sing on it with her as well. Guess you could say it's the 'blonde leading the blonde.'"
