"I agreed to do it," Keith told the San Jose Mercury News. "The two dates that I had available to go do it, they couldn't work out. Then we agreed to a third date, and they said the Chicks wasn't going to do it, so now it's gotten to where it's probably not going to happen."
The Alliance for Climate Protection, championed by former Vice President Al Gore, has inspired other unlikely pairings, including Democrat Nancy Pelosi and Republican Newt Gingrich, and the Reverend Al Sharpton appearing with the Reverend Pat Robertson. Gore's goal is to prove that climate change is not a partisan issue.
"It's hard to get people that don't get along to agree when all those egos and stuff are involved," Keith explains of the seemingly ill-fated collaboration.
Keith and Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines began trading jabs after the release of Keith's 'Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,' which she characterized as making country music sound "ignorant." Keith's response was to call Maines a "lousy songwriter," and the feud was off and running. To this day, Toby Keith and the Dixie Chicks have never officially met or spoken to one another.
"When somebody starts criticizing your music and starts calling you names, and you're just getting hammered, finally you respond," says Keith. "As soon as I did, everybody acted like I started the thing. But you know, I don't care. I'm not going to change my deal."

You know the man made a song that represented everyone's feelings at the time. We just got attacked and over 5000 people were murdered. There wasn't a man, woman, or child that was not affected in some way or another by what happened on 9-11. Now he's being condemned. I realize he didn't say it in a genteel way, however, most of us aren't very genteel when we're angry. When he wrote that song he was angry that someone had the audacity to attack us in our own country and kill so many innocent people. Can you say that you weren't angry and upset. You didn't want to "kick some a**"? As for Ms. Dixie Chick, she isn't perfect either and should think before she talks!

Thank god that Toby Keith has pride in our country and wants to praise our soldiers and doesn't have a problem expressing it. As far as the Dixie Chicks go, they are an embarrasement to our country....as soon as this feud started the one and only cd that I had of theirs went flying out the window. God love ya Toby, I am proud to say that I am a fan of yours!

Toby is right. The Dixie Chicks (Natalie in particular) are wrong. Clear and simple. Toby Keith is extremely patriotic and supportive of our troops, no matter where they are serving. I haven't seen any patriotism exhibited by any of The Dixie Chicks. Natalie was wrong--she should have kept her mouth shut.

It is so easy to critize a man that you have never met.
Toby Keith is a giver, a hard working, a song writing dynamo. Natelie Manes fired the first round and I was appalled by her words myself. As posted above, Toby keith wrote a song that most Americans would have if they were song writers. No matter what part of the USA you live in everyone has labels. However in the real world, any true red blooded American would have been angry when those towers fell and those planes crashed.
People you have to realize, many do not support the war but we must always...always...support our troops. They do not want to die or kill...they are paying for our freedom. Just imagine the cost they pay everyday all over the world. Finally, in reference to Toby Keiths song, "The Red White and Blue" I would love to put a "boot up their arse" too. He spoke for many of us.

Isn't one of our most valued rights the right to freedom of speech.
When Natalie appeared on stage and criticized President Bush, she did not call him any names. She merely stated that they were ashamed he was from Texas. If you look at the President's popularity poll numbers, it would be safe to say that a LOT of people are ashamed of him.
As far as the Toby Keith/Dixie Chicks "feud" is concerned, let's all just cool off. We're all Americans, and we should unite against the evils of terrorism, whether it's here or abroad.
