Sugarland Sued By Former Member

Sugarland co-founder Kristen Hall is suing her former band mates, alleging that they promised her a share of the group's earnings after she left. According to a lawsuit filed last month in Atlanta, Hall was to equally share Sugarland's profits and losses after she left the band in 2005. She alleges that she has been completely excluded from profits since her departure, so she is suing for $1.5 million.

Hall, pictured left with former partners Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, started Sugarland with Bush in 2003. She wrote or co-wrote every song on their debut album, 'Twice the Speed of Life.' Hall left the band before production started on their second album, explaining that she wanted to concentrate on her songwriting.

Sugarland's latest album, 'Love on the Inside,' is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album charts with sales of almost 500,000 to date. There has been no response so far from their camp on the lawsuit.

On the first alblum, she wrote all the songs, and since she was one of the founders of the band and they offered her a share of the profits if she left, then they need to pony up the money.

The way I read the article, Kristen Hall wants profits from 1st album sales only. She is entitled to that. She helped write the songs that made them who they are in the first place. However shouldn't she be suing the label???

I dont see why she should have a cut of what Sugarland now gets. she's the one that left the group. so i think it's ashame that a judge would even settle with her oh this one. hope all comes out ok for Sugarland.
Keep on putting out the hits for us SUGARLAND. Without having to share the profits.

So if Sugarland had turned out to be a flop after she left would she be suing for a share in their demise?!?! Hell, no. So sit down and shut up - you deserve a big helping of diddly squat.

I always thought their split was amicable. This is very sad.

She's only entitled to profits from her contribution to the first album and anything that they promosed in writing. Why should they support her with their success if she's not part of it anymore? I hope they don't have to pay her a dime she doesn't deserve.
