When Andy Griggs sings 'It's All About The Money,' he is singing from the heart. Griggs has suddenly found himself in a circle of high rollers, as ESPN.com has invited the singer to host an online poker tournament tonight. It's Griggs' first time playing poker online, but he says that's nothing compared to the last time he played the game, when he was participating in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. "I was extremely nervous. I was out of my element," Griggs tells The Boot, going on to say that being under that kind of pressure was very different from sitting around with a bunch of musicians whom he already knows and admires. "I'm sitting there with players I've been watching on ESPN, guys I know who could just murder you across the table."
While Griggs was coached before his giant step into the World Series of Poker, he doesn't think the advice will do much for his game tonight.
"The thing they taught me before the first tournament was how to deal with the people across the table from me," he explains. "They taught me how to act around the other players and to be careful of how and what I said to them."
Tonight's tournament will have two winners. One will be the person who finishes the game with the most chips. The other will be the player who actually knocks Griggs out of the game. Any money raised from the tournament on Griggs' part will go to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. and Children with Muscular Dystrophy.
