"I'm sure Johnny Cash would have been a John McCain supporter if he was still around."Those are words John Rich may want to take back. Cash's eldest daughter, Rosanne Cash, has issued a statement in response to Rich's above political assumption, which he made on stage at a concert in Florida earlier this month.
"It is appalling to me that people still want to invoke my father's name, five years after his death, to ascribe beliefs, ideals, values and loyalties to him that cannot possibly be determined and to try to further their own agendas by doing so," Rosanne writes. "I knew my father pretty well, at least better than some of those who entitle themselves to his legacy and his supposed ideals, and even I would not presume to say publicly what I 'know' he thought or felt. This is especially dangerous in the case of political affiliation. It is unfair and presumptuous to use him to bolster any platform. I would ask that my father not be co-opted in this election for either side since he is clearly not here to defend or state his own allegiance."
Rich, an outspoken supporter of Senator McCain, has written a campaign song for the presidential hopeful called 'Raisin' McCain.' It will be featured at next month's Republican National Convention.

Further proof that John Rich is a D-bag.

Way to go, Rosanne!

I second that. What nerve to just use someone's name that way. That's as bad as using an artist's music without permission at a campaign function. That makes the same assumption.

Go ahead on gal. Good for you Roseanne. It goes against the grain. She may have talked politics with her father, who knows. I know I wouldn't want any one saying that about my dad. All politicians are crooked, and some singers think they can sing, Big and Rich being included in that.

Yes, I, too, believe John Cash would vote for McCain as Mr. Cash was a solid, truthful man.

Wouldn't you think that Ms Cash's remarks would put the kibosh on reading her deceased father's mind? But no, Carolandkodi know better.
Since I never spoke to the man, I can say without fear of contradication that if he were alive he would cast his vote for one of them.

Mr. Cash might have been, but how does that trickle down to McCain?
snood199at 8-20-2008
Hey mselub, how do you know he wouldn't vote for Bob Barr?
monkebusiness13at 8-20-2008
I believe Johnny was a solid, truthful man... which would probably mean that he wouldn't vote. Politicians are scum.

YOU'RE AS BIG A MORON AS JOHN RICH

I have to side with Roseanne Cash on this one... I am a republican, and I too think that Johnny Cash would support Senator McCain, but she is right when it comes to her father's name... It shouldn't be used for any kind of political platform if it offends even one family member, and obviously it offends her.

Yes Rosanne you are very right
jamisunfireat 8-20-2008
I am offended that Mr. Rich would be so presumptuous. And I completely respect Roseanne's
willingness to tell him so.

I know John Rich is a singer but Roseanne Cash is a "Star", huh?
stremy1at 8-20-2008
jesus christ who cares what these redneck country singers think. With any luck Johnny Cash would have been bright enough to support Obama anyway.
