Faith Hill, Jessica Simpson Bashed for Covers

Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch readers have compiled a list of the 20 Worst Cover Songs Ever, and not surprisingly, country artists were included. Coming in at both the No. 1 and No. 2 slot is country's newest star, Jessica Simpson. First, for her cover of the Berlin classic, 'Take My Breath Away,' and then for her remake of the Robbie Williams hit, 'Angels,' both of which were included on the Collector's Edition of her 2003 album, 'In This Skin.'

"Reminds of that scene in 'Jaws' when the drunk sea captain gets the town's attention by scratching his nails down the blackboard -- which sounds 1000 percent more pleasant than this cover," writes one reader of Simpson's 'Take My Breath Away.'

Faith Hill's remake of the song Janis Joplin made famous, 'Piece of My Heart,' made the list at No. 18. Sheryl Crow's cover of Guns N' Roses' 'Sweet Child O' Mine' was bashed in the No. 4 slot. Whitney Houston was also included on the list, for her rendition of the Dolly Parton classic, 'I Will Always Love You.'

Was janis joplins voice hideous, technically yes. But janis sung a version of the blues where voice quality wasnt as important as whether the voice could convey raw emotions and angst. thats where janis joplins voice was powerful. Faith hill has a fantastic voice, just not the gritty rough and tumble street voice that a song like that required

I like Faith's A LOT better than Janis Joplin's version. As for Whitney - she shouldn't be on ANY worst list unless it's for judgement in marrying!

I can't disagree with Jessica being on the list for the unfortunate job she did with the Berlin song, but I loved her cover of Angels.

I'm just wondering how they forgot the terrible job Destiny's Child did with Emotions. It was right up there with Jessica's Take My Breath Away!

Remember, this is country covers. Neither Destiny's Child or the BeeGee's are country artists.

I think that Whitney Houston's rendition was incredibly powerful, and she does have a better voice than DP. I like Dolly Parton, but sometimes the second time around is better than the first.

Faith's country and pop version sounds better then Janis. Not sure why people think Janis is so great? Her voice is terrible!

Whitney didn't do that bad. I just think she shouldn't have held some notes as long as she did. Hey, at least you can sing along to Faith's Piece of My Heart instead of screaming it. I totally agree with Jessica Simpson's covers but where's These Boots are Made for Walking?
