Musicians representing every genre from acoustic to Zydeco and hailing from every corner of the globe will unite throughout the month of October to promote tolerance and understanding with the 7th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days, a worldwide network of concerts dedicated to "Harmony for Humanity." CMA Award winners Alison Krauss and Kathy Mattea are among the more than 500 musicians in 41 countries who will dedicate performances to the memory of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter and musician who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002. Pearl would have celebrated his 45th birthday on October 10.
As a musician, Pearl connected to people in every country he visited, often joining local music groups and participating in impromptu jam sessions.
Other artists participating throughout the month will include R.E.M., Jason Mraz, Mark O'Connor, Doug Kershaw, Laurie Anderson and conductor Zubin Mehta.
A special tour called FODfest (Friends of Danny), a jam session featuring more than 200 musicians, and led by Pearl's former bandmate and friend, radio host Todd Mack, also runs from October 10-26, visiting 14 cities across the U.S.
