Bon Jovi Angered By McCain's Use of His 'Home'

Jon Bon Jovi, a longtime Democratic supporter, has recently joined the list of songwriters and artists upset by the use of their songs for the opposing political party.

"We are surprised to hear that our song, 'Who Says You Can't Go Home' was used by the McCain campaign at rallies yesterday and today," Bon Jovi writes in a statement to TMZ. "We wrote this song as a thank you to those who have supported us over the past twenty-five years. The song has since become a banner for our home state of New Jersey and the defacto theme song for our partnerships around the country to build homes and rebuild communities. Although we were not asked, we do not approve of their use of 'Home.'"

The song was also recorded as a duet with Sugarland, who joined Bon Jovi in performing at this year's Democratic National Convention. Jon Bon Jovi also opened his home recently for a fundraising dinner for Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. He joins Heart, Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp and the Foo Fighters in expressing his anger over John McCain's use of their songs for his campaign.

Kaydee-
Hmmmm must have hit a nerve of yours. Sorry I haven't been out here for a while. How did we get on the abortion thing? To your point I agree you whole heartedly can't legislate morality. It never works. And you are most definitely correct the Walls Street bailout is socialism. Don't know where that came from either but we agree on that. And I agree with you that government is necessary but in a limited capacity. Like funding a military and helping people who are not able to help themselves like my father who is sticken with a horrible disease and can no longer work. BUT that said to fund people who are able bodied "NO" either you work or go hungry and I bet they would find jobs very quickly. A hand up not a hand out. Anyway, let's set some FACTS (as I always go back to) Do you mean not legislate morals like.
Thou shalt not kill - we do not allow murder in society (except abortion)
Thou shalt not steal - Stealing is against the law
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. - Lying especially to a grand jury aka Bill Clinton which is why he got impeached.

All these laws are rooted in Judeo Christian law. Again I'm with you we should not try not to legislate morality but where do you think these laws came from?

Now you talk about abortion. What it has to do with Bon Jovi I don't know.

Let me put this in perspective.
My Mother is an Irish Immigrant who came to America here Legally on a Green Card. AND got here citizenship 17 years later thank you very much! She got pregnant out of wedlock and the guy who did it told her to F#$K off and get lost!

Now had abortion been around in 1962 I may not be here today. I HAD a right to live! Despite the inconvenience of a pregnancy to my mother. By all the excuses the the left gives as reasons for an abortion I should have been aborted by my mother but that law didn't exist then. I am married, pay my taxes, served 20 years in the Marines and have 4 wonderful, competent law abiding children. Who were all homeschooled BTW.

Now about a crisis pregnancy, I contribute to my local crisis pregnancy centers and my wife volunteers at the local crisis pregnancy center from time to time so don't lecture me about abortion or crisis pregnancy!
Also the Constitution does not guarantee abortion of any type and does not grant the Federal government the right to guarantee that. The 10th amendment grants the states the rights to do what is NOT covered under the Constitution or it's amendments. Activist courts granted such a right to the Federal government in a sudo way when they allowed the Federal tax in like 1870 something. According to the constitution the abortion laws of the land are really unconstitutional and should be reversed. I look forward to hearing back.

Tom Dobrucky: If Republicans want less government intervention, then they need to quit trying to legislate "moral" behavior. Banning abortion, gay marriage, and the next big hot topic is promoting government intervention in to the lives of citizens. BTW, the Wall Street bailout is socialism at its finest and it was supported by Reps and Dems. I don't think there's anything wrong with the government doing what it can to help its people. If they aren't there to st least occaisionally help citizens, what's the point of having it? I guess I think if the government wants to intervene in people's lives, such as the case with the banning abortion want, then there needs to be programming in place to help those who fall victim. On that topic, it seems most people who want abortion banned don't want to do anything to help the crisis pregnancy! (At least not after the baby is born!) You can't have both! Either we get a total nanny government or we get laissez-faire!

After reading all off these comments some of you really have nothing better to do then insult someone or some group because they don't support a political party. Maybe they should stop making all the donations they do since they are so selfish according to some of you. It is JBJ right to voice his opinion as it yours to disagree. The only difference is that he makes a difference in the real world helping people. Do you think before they start building houses for people with the money they donate they ask if they are DEM or REP??

I can't believe with all the TRUE problems in the world that an entertainer of our country is acting so childish about Mc Cain's party using his song. So, taking as to what was written on this piece...he has a problem with me for not Suporting Obama and that I should not buy, listen, or grace him on what a talented singer he has become! The party's do enough slinging critisim on their own. Everyone should be able to speak their mind on their OPINIONS and still be civil to one another. We all have different views. GROW UP!!! Honestly the song didn't made me think he was a supporter of Mc Cain.....IT'S A SONG(that i happen to like and sing when nobody can hear me)!!! I guess now I need to check up on every celeberity on their views and see if I agree for what they stand for and decide should i support them.....heck...that sounds like some kind ETHICAL race. Songs are out their to relieve stress, put you in a good mood...depending on the song....they can create other moods for what you want to feel at the moment or help you in the moment like romance or dealing with a trial or tributlation in life. Hoping that proper procedures where taken in terms of the Mc Cain's party using this song or others. Like the saying goes.....PICK YOUR BATTLES.....JON BON JOVI and others joining him on this issue.....good luck on your people's views on this matter for the future. Talking about our economy and cuts to make.....start cutting out all the entertainments that cost money. Such as pro sports, movies, and concerts for about a year. A great deal of people not agreeing on this with me.....ok...this is why....go to a local sport game, play, and band concerts in the schools and local organizations. It just might make those celebs playing ball , acting, and singing appreciate what they do for the people who support them. IT can save gas, brings families and friends together even closer, they don't cost that much, yourself can even actively join in like playing a coed sports(might help with the obesity factor growing in American)...Parents knowing and talking with their kids(teen depression on the rise with their stresses)....get to know your nieghbor and throw a street BBQ...but, wait...don't forget to call the music artist if you can play their songs; they might not like what your serving on the grill. Let start trying to take back a little pride, honor, respect, morals, and values for THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND OURSLEVES. Have we all forgotten the histroy of our own nation? We all are not angels and saints, but just because you have done something wrong doesn't mean you can't make things better for the future. Though been said many times.... we learn from the past in order not to repeat the same mistakes. Last, majority of us are guilty of this bad habit, critising is EASY.....SOLUTION is HARD but way worth it and remembered admirably. PLus, a John Mc Cain and Sarah Palin supporter!

Just another elitist. If these morons would actually focus on something important they might have more merit. Grow up! He is getting paid for the use of it. I thought this one had at least a small tidbit of common sense. I guess he is just like all the rest of the crackpot Hollywood/musician crowd. What a dissappointment. Just one more to add to the list (as well as Sugarland) of entertainers that will not get another penny of my hard earned money!

You and me both Tom! I was a long time Bon Jovi fan up until they came out for Al Gore. Since then I have sold everything I owned of theirs since becoming a fan in 1986 on ebay and will never put another dime of my conservative money in their coffers again. What gets me with Jon Bon Jovi is he once said in a magazine that he was hugely against Tipper Gore's campaign against rock and that when asked about Bill Clinton in the 1990s he talked about what a liar he is over the Monica scandal. He also promised back in the 90's that Bon Jovi would never be political because no one wants to turn on the radio and hear songs or rockers with political messages they just want to rock. Jon you should of stuck to your own words you hypocrite.

Senator Biden stated" Quack like a Duck, walk like a duck, well, Obama has been friends with Ayers & wife for years, Friends with Reverend Wright, 20 years, Father Pflager, for years, quack quack. How can you vote for someone who has such radical friends and they all hate America!!

Every "artist" who has complained about the McCain campaign using their songs has offered those songs for licensing. McCain's people paid the fees and are well within their rights to use the songs how they see fit.

****************************************************

While it is most likey true, these artists do routinely offer their songs for licensing to be used in certain specific ways. However, I seriously doubt McCain's people have paid any fees to use the music of all of these artists. If you have some form of proof, perhaps you can share it with the world.
Just as a common courtesy, if nothing else, someone should not use the music or other material of a person that obviously does not support them or their ideas.
