'Coat of Many Colors' -- Dolly Parton (1971)
The bottom lines: "Although we had no money, I was rich as I could be/In my coat of many colors my mama made for me."
When a girl proudly displays her new, multi-colored coat, lovingly sewn by her mother from donated rags, her classmates mock her poverty -- though, until that moment, she'd never considered herself poor.

she never considered herself poor because if you have a big, loving family who takes care of you, you're not really poor at all.

Jerry Reed must have been real broke, since his 1981 hit, "Patches" was a Rock Hit in the 60's, that he just revamped. Show's what no money can do to a country singer. (And don't get me wrong, many rock singers do the same.)

All these are great but Barbara Mandrell's "In Times Like These" needs to be on this list! "I thank the good Lord I got you in times like these!"
