Taylor Swift Goes Global ... and Pop?

Taylor Swift, international pop star? That's the plan, according to Universal Music Group, which has struck a deal with the teen singer's record label, Big Machine Records, to help expand Swift's fan base to other countries.

"I don't really see her as a country artist," Universal's Executive Vice-President Max Hole tells Reuters. "If you listen to the records and see her play live, she has much more in common with acts like Avril Lavigne and Miley Cyrus."

Universal wants to poise Swift for international stardom, hoping music fans in other countries will catch on to what millions of American fans already love.

"She is by some distance the biggest breakthrough for an American artist in America over the last year," says Hole.

The first step in the global plan is a new album in early 2009 that will include songs from Swift's self-titled debut CD and from her sophomore album, 'Fearless.' Several songs on the new project will reportedly be re-mixed to be more pop-friendly.

Swift is also planning a European trek next year, playing shows with small audiences and making the media rounds. An international tour could come in the fall.

Don't do it, Taylor. Stay true to yourself and who you are musically. They want to push you in a direction that will waste your talent on noisy trash with no musical value whatsoever. That's what's been done to Miley; don't let it happen to you. Miley apparently realizes this is not the way to go, because she is contemplating a switch to country. You're already there; stay right where you are. Let the powers that be know that you're about music, not fame.

Well she is a cute little gal. But as far as being a good singer I think that is a stretch. After seeing her live it really showed that she lacked singing ability. I have been to hundreds of concerts and she falls in with billy ray cyrus or josh gracin in vocal ability. She is a good entertainer but nowhere near the vocals of reba, martina, or trisha yearwood. Actually after seeing carrie underwood, she falls in the same group. Sounds alot better on record with backup singers and good mixing. She is a freat songwriter though.

All I have to say is that she better hope it works because true Country Music fans are not going to be forgiving....look what happened with Shania and LeAnn....
When she first came unto the scene she was actually somewhat country with her first album and I think she's going to regret losing the respect that she had built up with country fans.

I was hoping Taylor Swift would grace into something more like classic country like Joe Nichols as she matured.

Let her discover herself. She has the talent. I agree, The first CD is more powerful but this is a growing process and she is growing infront of her audience.

She has the talent and it is from the heart so the voice can be what it is as long it is true. That is what people love that you did this for the music and for them.

Taylor Swift is a wonderful talented person. She writes her own songs then sings them. If she expands her fan base i think it's great! I just think it's like Garth Brooks and alot of others that expanded their bases while they were hot. Taylor don't let them change you!!!! GOOD LUCK!!

Taylor's music sucks. She could never be nor will ever be as big of a hit as Miley or Avril. I can't believe she was even compared to them.
