Kelley Lovelace talked to The Boot about the song he co-wrote for Brad Paisley and Keith Urban, 'Start a Band.'I wrote it with Ashley Gorley and Dallas Davidson. It was a one-day-er. Lots of fun and good chemistry.
The whole point of the song -- when you're "living in a world you don't understand, find a few good buddies and start a band," especially now now when America is in a funk -- that was the mindset behind it.
When Brad [Paisley] came around to his instrumental record, he called me and said, 'Hey, I'm thinking about recording that 'Start a Band' song.' 'On your instrumental?' I asked. He said yes. I asked if he was taking the words off, and he said, 'No, I'm going to use a few songs that have words.'
A week or so later, he called and said, 'Man, you're gonna flip when you realize what I'm gonna do with this thing,' but he wouldn't tell me. Next time he called, he said he was gonna try and get Keith Urban on it. I asked If he was kidding!
Keith loved the idea, and they went through everything they had to go through with the label, and they ended up opening the CMA show with it.
