Tim McGraw for Governor?

Does Tim McGraw have his eye on the Tennessee governor's mansion? The New Republic speculates that the country singer is considering a run for governor in 2010.

"He's been floating the idea for a few years now," reports the political magazine. "Tennessee Dems have been casting about desperately for a high-profile Democrat not named Harold Ford to take on Bill Frist, who is almost certainly going to run."

A spokesperson for McGraw had no comment on the rumors.

If he ran, McGraw would not be the first country star with political aspirations. Sammy Kershaw ran as a Republican for lieutenant governor of Louisiana last year, losing to the Democratic incumbent. The late Roy Acuff ran unsuccessfully for governor of Tennessee in 1948.

First of all, it was Bush 1 that brought out the notion of NAFTA to start with Then the republican led congress approved it. Clinton signed it into law. Second, a lot of people are on Tim McGraw for criticizing Bush, but what about all the people that criticzed Clinton? Aren't they all "Bad Americans" as well?

What we are seeing now with the banks began with Reagan and the push for bank de-regulation, and it was spurred on by Phil Grahmm. The repeal of the Glass/Steagell act allowed savings banks to begin selling investments like I-banks did. Bush said that "The free market will regulate the banks." After he cut even more regulations. It didn't happen overnight, it took some time for it to all kick in, but it just hit now.

If Tim were to run, he would have to be really good on the issues.

And for the woman who'se husband just lost his job, I feel bad for you. I am sure that it was being planned for months. Remember they actually passed tax laws that encourage US Companies to outsource the jobs to china and other countries But he can join the millions of others that lost their jobs this year. I've got friends who are teamsters and are on indefinite layoffs, and they deliver Liquid Oxygen to factories and hosptials.

I am a 35 year old tradesman and CANNOT get a job.Partly because employers have to hire a certain color or gender even though there not qualified. And as long as the rich are in control I AM UNEMPLOYABLE basically because I am a white man.

Very well stated Lisa. I'm surprised that he would run on a Democratic ticket unlike most true country music performers. I guess the liberalization wave is now corrupting everything. I wouldnt be surprised if something surfaced from from Obamas past that would prevent Obama from taking office considering the corrupt liberal/Democrat Chicago political machine that launched him. But that would leave us with Biden and Pelosi. In my opinion one is a professional thief and the other a left over hippie who is still out of her mind. Nuff said. Thanks for listening.

Lisa. Could you please look up slander in the dictionary? It would be helpful if you didn't overreact every time someone is critical of this President. After all, the country is doing poorly under his leadership, no one can deny that. Having provided poor leadership, he has left himself open to criticism. His decisions are open to scrutiny, and he is taking heat from both liberals and conservatives for his politics and his lack of leadership. That is a fact. So, if Tim can get enough votes, more power to him. That's the way it works in this country. You get the chance if the voters give it to you and you do the best you can. Apparently President Bush's best wasn't very good. You have the right to disagree, but you would be part of a tiny minority. It is time to stand aside and let others lead who are up to the task.

Leave it up to the people of Tennessee. He has the right as a citizen of Tennessee to run, just like anyone else. The good people of Tennessee know what then want and need.

I don't know anything about Tim McGraw's politics. But anybody is better than Bill Frist--the clown who was all for state's rights, but interfered in the Teri Schiavo case after diagnosing her as not being braindead from a video tape. He later denied having made such a diagnosis. (Then the video tape with him making that diagnosis appeared, and he had no answers.) Anyone who could defeat this clown would get my vote!
