Little Jimmy Dickens Recovering From Brain Surgery

Grand Ole Opry star Little Jimmy Dickens is recovering from brain surgery. The 88-year-old singer had surgery Tuesday in a Nashville area hospital to repair a subdural hematoma.

"He is resting comfortably. The family asks for your thoughts and prayers for Jimmy as he recovers," reports an Opry spokesperson.

Dickens recently celebrated 60 years as a member of the Opry, where he is still a regular performer. Known for both his ballads and humorous songs, the country legend hit the country charts every decade from the '40s through the '70s, scoring his biggest hit in 1965 with 'May the Bird of Paradise Fly up Your Nose.'

best wishes and prayers for Merle and Jimmy...was watching the inaguration (sp) yesterday and after the swearing in the thought came to my mind "now we need Haggard to step up and sing "Jesus take a hold and lead us through" don't know how many of you remember the song but the line about "this world has never been in the awful shape its in our leaders seem in doubt of what to do...its time a prayer was spoken form the heart of ever man Jesus take a hold and lead us through" just seemed like it would have been so appropriate for the times. Just my thoughts... please ... no bombarding me with hate mail cuz I used jesus name

Hey Merle and Jimmy, you are both in my thoughts and prayers. Please get back to normal soon. Don't ever forget, "if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it". We need you both to keep on singing. I listened to you guys in the very early days of your careers and am not ready to let either of you go. Love and best wished always. Your fans forever. Dee

God bless Jimmy and his family. Our 70 year old Aunt had brain surgery down here in Mexico where she retired a while ago from Boston. Since she is living in the Jalisco State, she had to be driven to the nearest hospital they could attend her case, 5 hours from where her home is. According to the doctors in Puerto Vallarta, most people, about 30% will not make it to a nearby hospital, She is making a great recovery now and we believe is due to her always being a strong and positive individual, althought her Doctors say family and friends, all who flew from the States to visit, are a great help as well. It always helps to have the support of those you have known, raised and loved. Our family wishes You, Jimmy, a speed recovery and God willing, many more healthy years to enjoy your loved ones.
