Phil Vassar Mingles With Hollywood Elite

Phil Vassar had quite the glamorous gig last week, performing at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

"It was a lot of stars doing their little movie thing," Vassar tells Nashville's Tennessean newspaper. "I saw Marisa Tomei, Robert Redford, Woody Harrelson, Josh Brolin and Chris Rock. It was fun! It was a lot more laid back than I thought it would be."

Not that Vassar's life resembles anything laid back right now. Working hard to get a new single out, 'Prayer of a Common Man,' Vassar says it was the radio stations -- not himself or his label -- that decided to play that song, thanks in part to its timeliness.

"A lot of people have a lot of struggles going on right now, and it's striking a chord," he says. "I think you're always looking for some divine answer, and I think that's what this song is about. I think everyone can identify with the struggle. There are a lot of people with a lot of money who are really, really scared right now. I don't care if you're rich or poor or in the middle. Everyone has something to be worried about."

In spite of that, Vassar is hopeful that things will turn around. "We got a new administration, so hopefully they'll be able to get it rocking again."
