Buddy Miller, one of Nashville's most valuable players, is recovering in a Baltimore, Md. hospital, after apparently suffering a heart attack on Friday.Nashville's Tennessean newspaper reports that the 56-year-old Miller was on tour with Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin and Shawn Colvin in a show dubbed '3 Girls and Their Buddy,' when he was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital. He underwent successful triple-bypass heart surgery and will likely be recovering in Baltimore for several weeks.
As a songwriter, among the artists Miller has penned tunes for are the Dixie Chicks, Lee Ann Womack and Brooks & Dunn. His producer credits include albums by Solomon Burke, Allison Moorer and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. During the past year, he toured as a featured instrumentalist in Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' band.
Miller is married to Nashville singer-songwriter Julie Miller. The pair have an album coming out March 3 on New West Records.
