Kris Kristofferson in Heated Exchange With 'Mystery' Artist

Did Toby Keith once get a tongue lashing from Kris Kristofferson? Maybe, if you believe actor/director Ethan Hawke.

Hawke, a huge Kristofferson fan himself, wrote an article in the recent issue of Rolling Stone magazine about a confrontation he witnessed between the country icon and another country musician, whom he declined to name, at Willie Nelson's 2003 birthday concert at Madison Square Garden.

"Up from the basement came one of country music's brightest stars (who shall remain nameless)," Hawke recalls, adding that the unnamed star went on to warn Kristofferson to not sing "any of that lefty s--- out there tonight."

Hawke doesn't name Keith but does offer a pretty big clue that it was him: "At that moment in time, the star had a monster radio hit about bombing America's enemies back into the Stone Age."

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure this one out. While Keith was also joined by Kenny Chesney, Merle Haggard and Shelby Lynne at Willie's show, he was the only one who had a current song on the radio that referenced foreign enemies. And a monster hit it was -- 'Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),' which was a huge success on country radio.

Hawke writes that Kristofferson, a former Army officer himself, was clearly annoyed with the exchange. He recalls that the country icon asked the other musician, "You ever worn your country's uniform?"

The artist, according to Hawke, responded with a bewildered "What?," to which Kristofferson replied, "Don't 'what' me, boy! You heard the question. You just don't like the answer. I asked, 'Have you ever served your country?' The answer is, 'No, you have not ... You don't know what the hell you are talking about!'"

Toby is a white trash bully. He did it to the Dixie Chicks as well. Thank heavens for someone who has the balls to stand up to him.

IT'S A SHAME THAT FEW REALLY KNOW ABOUT KRIS. YOU SHOULD WATCH A&E. HIS BIOGRAPHY INCLUDES HAVE BEEN AN INSTRUCTOR AT WEST POINT WHO VOLUNTARILY LEFT TO GO TO VIET-NAM AS A ARMY RANGER WHO WON SEVERAL METALS FOR DISOBEYING ORDERS AND FLYING HIS HUEY IN UNDER FIRE SAVING THE LIVES OF MANY SOLIDERS. HE'S MOST KNOWN AS A PROSTESTER AGAINST VIET NAM BUT WHO BETTER YET TO PROTEST THAT WAR BUT A TRUE HERO OF THAT WAR.

I wonder who the men and women ACTUALLY fighting the War(s) would like to listen to...speak...sing...whatever...

...and you could pick any war...WWII, Korea, Iraq, Vietnam...

I dont know any Kristofferson (sp?) songs but I would guess, if you put them side by side with a 'TK" song about putting a boot in peoples asses, on a jukebox in an E-club ( the 'E' stands for enlisted..."Enlisted' refers to a man or woman, not and officer, serving in our United States military)..then the TK song would get pretty much continuous play...

For those of you damning TK, ya'll MIGHT want to further research the issue. You'll find out the author of the Tennessian who MOBY TEETHed him has a follow up article coming out today stating that it didn't actually happen according to both Willie and Kris!

Most military men/women will tell you, you don't have to actually serve in the military to SERVE THE MILIARY! Toby's visits mean more to them than I think he even realizes. I got 4 family members over there, 3 of whom have benefited from his visits.
