Steele, Vassar Recruit Cyrus for Supergroup

Billy Ray Cyrus is easily at the pinnacle of success, so what better time to start a new endeavor? Cyrus may become part of a new supergroup that includes singer/songwriter and buddy Jeffrey Steele, Phil Vassar and rocker John Waite.

Steele, who has known Cyrus since the early 90s, says the band will be called Brother Clyde. "We're getting ready to start rehearsing, but everybody is so busy," Steele acknowledges, in what might be the understatement of the year.

Waite recently performed with Steele during Tin Pan South, a songwriting extravaganza of performances in Nashville. Of all the possible members, the English singer is the one with the most supergroup experience. He formed Bad English in the late 80s with Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips, two of his former bandmates from the Babys; and Neal Schon and Deen Castronovo of Journey. They had a No. 1 hit with 'When I See You Smile,' but broke up in 1992. Waite also paired up with Alison Krauss back in 2006, for a duet of his hit single, 'Missing You.'

If he indeed joins, Cyrus will have to work rehearsals in between upcoming tour dates and other possible movie work. Steele says the potential members of Brother Clyde aren't really sure why they're starting a band in the midst of all their individual success and busy schedules. "We don't know why we're doing it -- maybe just because we think it's gonna be fun," he says. "I'm not sure, but it sure sounds like fun to me."

I would love to see this come to light. Except, who would be the singer since all of them sing? I wouldn't want Phil Vassar to get stuck behind the piano, or Jeffrey Steele just playing the guitar while Billy Ray & John take turn on vacals

All I gotta say is that last time someone tried to create a "Supergroup" we got the Spice Girls...
