Taylor Hicks Tries Country Crossover?

'American Idol' Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks has gone country! Well, at least a little bit. The Alabama native, known for his blues and soul music, is reportedly shipping his new single, 'Seven Mile Breakdown,' to country radio stations next month. Listen to the song after the jump, then tell us whether you think it sounds country.

Hicks' 2006 self-titled debut album sold more than a million copies. His sophomore album, 'The Distance,' was released last month on his own label, Modern Whomp Records, after the 32-year old musician parted ways with Arista Records. 'What's Right Is Right,' the first single from his new album, made it to No. 22 on the Hot AC charts. 'Seven Mile Breakdown' is the CD's second single. Hicks will sing it live Wednesday night, as he makes a guest appearance on 'American Idol.'

Really didn't care for this at all... it doesn't seem the least bit country to me. He should stick with blues... he won't make as much money but at least he'll be happy.

I like this song, loved it when I first heard it from the album and well even before that.
Despite what some people have to say, Taylor Hicks has a very good voice. I am into music and there is no doubt about that. He is one of the best front men and bandleaders around. Puts on one hell of a good concert.
This could sure play on my country station.

This guy's voice leaves a great deal to be desired, and it's weak. I felt he was talentless when he won, and I still believe any one of his backup singers have better voices than he'll ever have.

It can definitely be played on country radio. It's more country than Taylor Swift and Darius Rucker, who are both making a killing on "country" radio. But let's face it -- all of today's country would have been called "pop" about 10 years ago.... the times they are a'changin'!!! But I definitely like this Taylor tune!!!

I always said Taylor would do great in the country market. This song is his ticket. Taylor is an amazing talent whose only problem in the industry is not having a radio format that will play his music. Now he has found one. I can't wait to hear this song on my local country stations.

I am not a big country fan but this song sounds great and it seems as country as all the other stuff being passed off as country now ( like Carrie Underwood). I really like Taylor's voice. He has a distinctive sound unlike a lot of the singers that are popular today that all sound alike.
