John Rich Talks About His 'Great Equalizer'

Like the majority of tracks on John Rich's solo album, 'I Thought You'd Never Ask' offers a glimpse into his personal life. In fact, he used the song to help him pull off one of the most important events of his life.

"I proposed to her with that song," Rich tells The Boot of his new bride, Joan Bush. "She bawled her head off, and then I put a gigantic diamond on her finger."

Rich and Bush's nuptials last December came as a surprise to many, as they'd kept their engagement secret. Their wedding at Nashville's famed Ryman Auditorium was attended by just about two dozen friends and family members -- and absolutely no paparazzi.

"I see a lot of entertainers use their weddings as ways to promote their movie or record, or they'll sell the rights to the wedding to PEOPLE magazine. That's fine if that's how they want to do it. But I'm the total opposite," says the country music mogul. "I think you've got to keep some things to yourself if you want to protect your sanity. I want to keep my family from media sharks who just want to take a bite out of your ass any chance they get. They're welcome to anything I've got in the music world, but when it comes to my family, that's off limits."

The notoriously rowdy Rich says he's loving married life, and settling down with Joan may just result in settling down from the party scene ... at least a little bit.

"If I have nobody to talk to and nobody to report to at the end of the day, with as wild as my life is, I'll wind up drinking too much [and] getting in too much trouble," says Rich. "She's a great equalizer."

Please people, just because you're jealous is no reason to badmouth this good looking talented guy. Envy will get you nowhere. You go John and remain honest to yourself as always. Let these people drool.
