Joe Nichols"I think it is a huge honor to get to go play for the troops who have been working their tails off for several years, some with several tours under their belt," says Joe. "If we can bring a little bit of home to those guys and girls that are really working hard and really sacrificing a whole heck of a lot then that would be really cool."
The tour will include stops in Baghdad and a few other places in the area. "These guys really need a piece of home right now, and times are tough for everybody - especially our military," says the singer. "For me to go offer a little bit of a good time to them, it's certainly our honor."
Joe will no doubt be performing his current single 'Believers' during the visit. The song, which he says is about passion and belief, is one the service men and women can easily relate to. "When people have passion there's nothing they can't do," Joe explains. "You have to believe that things can be bigger than what you see in front of you in order to move forward."
This isn't the first time he's played for men and women in the armed services. Last fall Joe joined Clint Black, Toby Keith, Jessica Simpson and others in taping part of a ABC-TV special at Camp Pendleton, Oregon.
Always willing to go out of his way to help others, Joe recently surprised a group of students in South Carolina who had adopted his hit 'The Impossible' as their theme song. Sonya Boyles, a teacher at the John T. Simpson Alternative School in Easley, wrote to invite Joe stop by and perform for her students when was in the area.
"These kids find themselves in a situation not of their making," Joe says of his decision to take Boyles up on her invitation. "I think it's great that their teacher is trying to teach them that nothing is impossible, and that you should never give up.
"I felt like if I didn't get over to the school and do this performance for the kids, she'd put it on my permanent record!," Joe adds, tongue in cheek. "It was a trip we were happy to make, and I applaud Sonya and her students for their hard work."
