It's official! Julianne Hough will kick off her Sunday shoes and cut loose as Ariel Moore in the big screen remake of 'Footloose' -- as long as her busy schedule permits, that is.Variety reports that Julianne's first major film role is still "contingent on working out scheduling," but shooting is set to begin in March 2010. Variety also says fans of the 1984 film starring Kevin Bacon can expect "a more mature version than the original."
Julianne's audition last month was praised by the film's director Kenny Ortega, who gushed, "She was beautiful ... so talented." 'Gossip Girl' star Chace Crawford (a.k.a. PEOPLE Magazine's Hottest Bachelor of 2009) signed on to do the film last month, after 'High School Musical' star Zac Efron turned down the role.
By the way, this won't be Julianne's big-screen debut. In 2001, she appeared -- uncredited -- as a 'Hogwart's Schoolgirl' in 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.'

Glad Julianne got the role. She can dance, sing n act. Julianne has played Ariel b4 altho not on the big screen. Also Ortega n Julianne once were both nominated for a choreography emmy which meant they were competing against each other n Julianne only 19 years old. Ortega might have to ask Julianne for her advice on some of the choreography on this movie. I hope it'll b great as Chicago n not so much his HSMs.

Why does Hollywood insist on churning out this crap!
What next? A remake of Urban Cowboy starring Adam Lambert?

David- I think that the point is that they aren't making a straight remake of the film... it is my understanding that it will be similar to what was done with "Hairspray." As many know, "Hairspray" by John Waters is a 80's campy classic, which was then turned into a hit Broadway musical. Similarly, "Footloose" was a hit movie that was turned into a musical. From everything that I have heard, this version is supposed to be a screen adaption of the musical. This may have changed but last year when I read about it and about Zac Efron being the possible lead, it was then going to be a musical version.
