Prolific songwriter Radney Foster has had tunes recorded by Keith Urban, Sara Evans and the Dixie Chicks, among others. But he's also garnered critical acclaim for his own output of recorded material throughout the past 25 years -- first as a member of the duo Foster and Lloyd, with partner Bill Lloyd -- and then as a solo artist. It's been nearly four years since he's released an album, and in that time Radney has mourned the death of his father and celebrated the end of an agonizing 12-year, 5,000-mile separation from his son, due to divorce. Now he's emerging from these emotionally trying times with a new album fittingly titled 'Revival.'
Among those artists joining the Texas native on a record he calls "close to the bone" are Dierks Bentley, who recorded Radney's 'Sweet and Wild' in 2008, and Darius Rucker, who first backed Radney in 1999 on his original version of 'Raining on Sunday,' which later became a smash hit for Keith Urban.
For the new album, Radney and Darius recorded 'Angel Flight,' a tribute to the pilots charged with the responsibility of transporting fallen servicemen and women home to their final resting places. Radney and his co-writer Darden Smith are donating proceeds from the song to a charity providing assistance to military families.
'Revival' will be released on Radney's own Devil's River record label. The first 1,000 fans to pre-order the disc at his official website will receive a free 5-song EP. He's also got several other special events and offers available at the website, including the once-in-a-lifetime chance to purchase a concert and gourmet dinner for eight prepared by Radney himself.
'Revival' is set for release on September 1.
