When Julianne Hough walks on the set of the upcoming remake of 'Footloose,' she will already be very familiar with the role of her character, Arial Moore. "I played Arial in high school in Park City, Utah, at the same time my brother was playing Ren McCormack on the West End in London," the dancer/singer/actress tells The Boot. "I was a big fan of that movie from the beginning, way before I knew I would audition for it ... It's really cool to have this opportunity."
Julianne will star opposite 'Gossip Girl' actor Chace Crawford, who will portray Ren in the new version of the flick. The remake will supposedly take on a more mature approach than the original feature, which starred Kevin Bacon in the lead role. The original film, about a teenager who moves to a small town where dancing and rock music are prohibited, was released in 1984. It has the distinction of producing one of the biggest-selling soundtracks of its time.
The new 'Footloose' is set to begin filming in March, with an anticipated release in late 2010.

Why do producers try to copy an original work? Some things CAN NOT be duplicated. Dirty Dancing remake was a flop. They will not be able to make this one as good as the original either. there have been other remakes of movies, but they are all flops, as this one will be too.

I agree

Who the hell is Chace blahblah? This guy is going to do a better job than Kevin Bacon---I don't think so. At least I know who Zach Efron is and knew he would suck (obviously he thought so too and backed out). What a waste of film. Quit doing movie remakes with reality losers. Thank you

Cause we really need a remake of this one. With the advances in special effects they should really be able to make this a better movie than the original! Save yourself some money people, just rent the original Footloose and enjoy it. Then watch this garbage when it comes out on DVD to compare the two. I wouldn't bother seeing this in the theatre.

First you think they should make a REmake of footloose, then you call it Garbage? I own Footloose on video ( for the long ago VCR ) and on DVD. You called it " garbage" and "wouldn't bother seeing this in the theaters".You contradicted yourself there: " we need a remake", but " you wont go see it " heheheheheeh. Why do you care if they make a remake of footloose? you wont bother going to see it.

the comment that has you so confused is called SARCASM!!!! the poster was being FUNNY. the part about remaking it due to the advances in special effects shoulda clued you in, doofus.
the poster called the NEW movie garbage, not the old. then he/she suggested people rent the OLD one. please reread it, or have someone read it to you, slowly.

Poor Lea, has no clue about sarcasm. He was being sarcastic about the reason there needs to be a remake. As if today's special effects are needed for a movie like Footloose. He was bashing the idea from the get go.

Now I know that Hollywood makes one two may remakes it can get annoying at times, but I am sorry to say this but this is a long over due movie that needs to be updated for the 21st century. I liked the old one yes, but now with Julianne in it will be 100 times much more better. She is a sweetheart and good and oh so perfect it makes me wish I was the male lead in this movie. I don't want to say 'Break A Leg'Julianne, but know of my good wishes and continued sucesss.... =)

I think Julianne will do the remake proud. Maybe she can teach Chace how dance like Kevin Bacon did in the original. I am sure she won't have any problem with the dancing!
On another subject, I am so tired of hearing Taylor Swift this and Taylor Swift that. I don't see what the big deal is about her. She really isn't that good a singer!

They should leave the classics alone! They always screw them up! I can see it now...instead of Ren & Ariel dancing to Kenny Loggins and Deniece Williams they will be tearing up the dance floor to the likes of The Black-eyed Peas & Amy Winehouse....YUCK! Don't Fu@k it up!!!!

I would much rather see a Ghostbusters remake or sequel.

The dance scenes will be so cut and edited. Watch something like Fame and then watch a Fred Astair or Gene Kelly movie. Few, if any edits and the camera's on them the whole time, not just their(or somebody else's) feet.
mrsjgrayat 6-23-2009
Thomas, you obviously don't know who Julianne Hough is! lol Believe me, they won't edit or cut dance scenes. This chick can dance her butt off!

They said that plans r for a more "mature approach" to the material than in the original Footloose.
I wonder what they meant by that. They better not leave out the warehouse scene. Hope it'll b good like Chicago. Julianne will b great for the part. She's so multi talented, feisty n gorgeous.
