Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry says he had never been sick to his stomach with nerves until Tuesday. That's the day he and singing partner Troy Gentry became the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry. "I couldn't sleep last night, and I've had butterflies all day," Eddie told The Boot. "It's an unbelievable honor. If we're dreaming, don't pinch us and wake us up!"
"Eddie and I both dreamed of being part of the Opry when we came to town in 1997," Troy added. "Once we landed our [record] deal, it became our goal to be Opry members. We love being part of the Opry, coming out and playing every chance we get."
Eddie and Troy were inducted by Marty Stuart and Little Jimmy Dickens, who introduced the duo by saying, "I know these men on and off stage, and I find them to be gentlemen in every respect. I welcome them to our family of entertainers."
After singing 'Hillbilly Shoes' and several other songs spanning their ten-year career, Montgomery Gentry received a standing ovation from the Opry audience, as both men wiped away tears.
Eddie was especially emotional throughout the evening. His father was a musician and had often admonished him, "You haven't made it in country music if you haven't played the Opry." Had he been alive to be at the telecast, Eddie says he probably would have had words of wisdom for him. "Probably the first thing he'd say is, 'Now don't get out there and mess this up.' I think he'd be patting me on back and say, 'Go out there and get it. Now you've done something!'"
After their induction, Eddie raised his new member award in honor of his father, saying, "Dad, we made it!"

If these guys are considered country and opry material, then I suppose we better bring in Cowboy Troy too. Let's just pick any old artist who can piece together a "country" song and make them members too. Hell, I think we oughta start inviting people in who can karaoke a country song now, given this standard. The Opry used to stand for something, now all they're doing is looking for a buck.

While I like their music, I'll never be able to forget that poor penned bear that was "hunted" down and killed while the brave "hunter" had himself filmed doing it. Disgusting. What kind of "man" would do something like that? Their music will forever be ruined for me by that news story.

Agreed!!!!!

A tame bear no less, one who trusted people and was raised in captivity. Disgusting indeed. I will never again listen to a word of their music, not that I liked it much to begin with. Definitely shows a depraved character and nobody with a heart could ever imagine doing such a thing. These guys definitely "do not rock". They should hang their heads in shame.

well, flatt and scruggs they ain't but then again, who is ? their heartland, working man type of music and lyrics will serve them well. not everybody liked merle and conway early in their careers either.

i agree with barb! i did like them until i heard the bear story. i no longer even watch their video's. if one comes on i change the channel. i think that was a sick thing to do. i would never purchase their cd and do not think they should be in the opry at all.

These guys are great!! They're real men and they sing real men songs. Don't worry about the bear. It wasn't Smoky or Yogi. All bears are extremely dangerous and will eat you!!!
jami lovulloat 6-27-2009
very intelligent comments here, you sound like you know a whole lot about bears, "real men" do not kill tame, captive, penned bears over 20 times for "fun", believe me. The fact that bears "are dangerous" has nothing to do with it. I'll worry more about the bear if I want to, after all, he is innocent and the morons who shot him are definitely not.

I love Montgomery Gentry, to death. They are the best duo out there. They are boring and generic, they do what they want to do. No one is going to change them. All of you people who are still on the bear thing, need to forgive and forget. It's important thing to learn how to do. At least they are doing something with there lives, no trying to make everyone else out there feel bad. I'm sick of reading the same comments about MG. If you don't like them...why waste your time writing bad stuff about them. They just proves you have no life. So to conclude this...Congrats, Troy and Eddie, on this big milestone in your career! I love you guys!
