Trace Adkins' 'Badonkadonk' Goes Platinum

Trace Adkins' 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,' the song country fans seem to either love or loathe, was certified platinum last week, with sales exceeding one million. Trace is the first to admit he's shocked by the humorous song's success.

"It immediately made me laugh," he tells The Boot of the first time he heard the tune, which was written by Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser and Dallas Davidson. "I thought it would be a hit, but there's no way I could have envisioned a million ring tones and all that kind of stuff. And then for the video to take on a life of its own ... Yeah, it caught me off guard."

Trace also admits he knew the song wouldn't sit right with all of his fans, given its suggestive lyrics. But if listeners don't realize 'Badonkadonk' is all in good fun, then the Louisiana native thinks they need to "lighten up."

"People who are going through life being offended by songs are leading pretty miserable lives," he tells The Washington Post.

'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,' in addition to selling a million copies and ringtones, was the first song to land Trace on the Top 40 of the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, back when the song was released in 2005.
