Mel McDaniel "Fighting for Life" in Nashville Hospital

Grand Ole Opry member Mel McDaniel is battling for his life in a Nashville-area hospital. Country Weekly reports that Mel's wife, Peggy, contacted their offices on Monday (July 6) to request the prayers of the singer's fans, saying his situation is "not good."

On June 16, the 66-year-old McDaniel suffered a heart attack. He is now in a medically-induced coma. Since 1996, the singer has been recovering from a near-fatal fall into an orchestra pit, suffered while he was performing at a show in Lafayette, La.

A member of the Opry since 1986, Mel's hits include 'Stand Up,' 'Louisiana Saturday Night,' and the chart-topping 'Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On.' McDaniel was born in Checotah, Okla., the hometown of his fellow Opry cast member, Carrie Underwood.

To those who have not yet heard. It was confirmed earlier today that Mel has lost his battle with cancer. To his friends and family, my heart goes out to you, and I am so sorry for your loss =`(

Mel McDaniel came to Shreveport, LA years ago, around my birthday. He of course has the hit "Baby's got her blue jeans on." But he also has another song called "Henrietta" ... which happens to be my name.... he sang it for me that night and signed an album cover, and with a big hug, he made my birthday most memoriable. I pray that he will heal and continue to perform soon, I would love for him to return to Shreveport, LA again. Family: stay strong, God's will be done!

Thanks to TheBoot.com,we can still find out about real country singers. I thouight cmt.com might have something on Mel but his name is not mentioned on there. Instead, all I saw was Taylor Swift lolligagging all over some rap singer and news on Michael Jackson!... My,my...why do they still call it country music? It is soooo far from that that it's not funny. I know where to get country news from now on and will never again visit that "other" site. May God bless Mel McDaniel and his family as they go through this very tough time!
