Grand Ole Opry member Mel McDaniel is battling for his life in a Nashville-area hospital. Country Weekly reports that Mel's wife, Peggy, contacted their offices on Monday (July 6) to request the prayers of the singer's fans, saying his situation is "not good."On June 16, the 66-year-old McDaniel suffered a heart attack. He is now in a medically-induced coma. Since 1996, the singer has been recovering from a near-fatal fall into an orchestra pit, suffered while he was performing at a show in Lafayette, La.
A member of the Opry since 1986, Mel's hits include 'Stand Up,' 'Louisiana Saturday Night,' and the chart-topping 'Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On.' McDaniel was born in Checotah, Okla., the hometown of his fellow Opry cast member, Carrie Underwood.
