Nickelodeon Star Goes Country

Jennette McCurdy, who plays a rebellious teen on the Nickelodeon TV series 'iCarly,' is going country. The 17-year-old actress announced on her website that she has signed a record deal with Capitol Nashville.

"I am in the Capitol Family along with such unbelievable greats as Keith Urban, Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, and Trace Adkins -- to name a few. These are artists I bow down to!" Jennette writes in a letter to fans. "I am honored, ecstatic, elated, and overwhelmed with joy! Capitol's expertise in country music will allow me the opportunity to give you guys the best I have to give in songwriting, singing and performing."

Jennette has already released two singles to iTunes, 'So Close' and 'Homeless Heart.' There's no word yet on when Jennette's first official Capitol single will hit country radio.

I can't believe she's going country, that's amazing! I've seen the show iCarly before so it's hard to imagine her as the bossy, girl with an attitude kind of character she plays on the show.

It seems as if a lot of child actors that build a career on either Nickelodeon or Disney Channel always go down the singing route. This should be interesting, maybe the next Carrie Underwood?
