Story Behind the Song: 'You Belong With Me,' Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift talks about the Top 5 hit that she recently performed at the CMT Music Awards (pictured left).

Just like all of my songs, 'You Belong With Me' is based on a real person. When I write a song, my goal is to confess what happened in a situation ... When I look at the track listing on my album, I can see a face pop out in my mind.

For this current single, I remember I was overhearing a conversation one of my friends was having with his girlfriend, and he was obviously getting completely chewed out by her! She was just screaming through the phone at him, and I think it was for something really small, like he told her he'd call her in ten minutes and instead it was fifteen minutes later ... something like that. I remember thinking to myself, 'Why does he let her push him around like that because she obviously doesn't appreciate him?' But instead of saying that out loud to him, I wrote it down in a song.

i have to respect taylor because she writed her own music but her vocal range is nothing and her voice has no power! i get that shes only 18 or whatever but country music needs more than a timid innocent little small town blonde teenager!

For you people who really don't listen to her music STOP and listen. When she started she was only 16. So all her songs are about teenage feelings. As she metures her songs will reflect that. Let her be young while she can. We as a nation have very little young role modles for our daughters out there in hollywood. I would be very proud if my daughter would grow up and had the pressence and state of mind of Taylor. She is 19 and is making very good decisions for herself and her career. YOu keep it up Taylor..

It's too bad Carrie Underwood fans always have to come here and trash Taylor Swift. I myself will not waste my time doing something like that. The fact is, they are both wonderful role models in a world that sorely needs them.

Look, Swift is a terrific song-writer if you're into that whole, acne-teen, pathos schtick...but she can't carry a tune in a bucket. Let's see what happens to her when she gets a bit older and can't play to her facebook, twitter pimply-faced fan base. She should stick to song writing and leave the singing to those with that talent...Carrie, for example! (Oh, and she should take her buddy Kellie with her...another non-talent...what a hypocrite as she sings "Don't You Know You're Beautiful" to her teeny-bopper audience and then has breast augmentation and who knows what other cosmetic surgery!)

Do you have any real proof that Taylor has had cosmetic surgery of any kind?

Here's a plastic surgery site that says she has NOT received any such surgery.

She cannot sing and the reason she is popular is all the young girl buying her albums and going to concerts. She is a good writer but her voice has and always will make me turn the volume down till its over. When the young girls grow up she will fade away. Thank god

If she wasn't pretty, her songs would go nowhere.

Welcome Christy.

I love Taylor Swift I think she is talented and obviously smart and she writes her own songs which most I enjoy but being 37 years old this song just doesn't relate to me because she hasn't had the life experiences someone my age has and I think to keep competitive she will have to move away from the "high school" teenager phase and live life a while or write from a different perspective.

One more thing. I'm NOT the same Dave who posted on this board who said he wanted to have sex with Taylor Swift. Taylor is one of those truly beautiful girls I couldn't imagine having sex with.

Taylor haters fall into 2 categories:

1)Carrie Underwood fans who are seething with jealousy at Swift's enormous success because they feel Carrie was the new "queen" of country.

2)Country music purists who have a very narrow definition of what country music is supposed to be and who will maliciously attack those artists who do not fit the mold.

Either way, it does absolutely no good to trash Taylor. She is a role model to millions of people, young and old alike. Let's build up the positive role models intead of tearing them down.
