Collin Raye Honors Granddaughter on New Album

Collin Raye's first No. 1 hit, 'Love Me,' is a poignant love story about two grandparents who wait for each other in this life and the next. Now that he's a grandparent himself, Collin is telling another kind of love story, this time about a grandfather and his granddaughter, that would touch even the Grinch's heartstrings. Collin wrote 'She's With Me' for his nine-year-old granddaughter Haley, who has a debilitating neurological disorder.

"Haley inspired me to write the song," Collin tells The Boot, with a lump in his throat. "In life, bless her little baby heart, she can't do anything. She's totally helpless in every way. She can't hold her head up, she can't sit up, she can't roll over, she can't scratch if she itches, she can't let you know if she's in pain. It's just a miserable little life she has ... But, I always feel like it's such an honor to take her places and be her representative on this earth and say, 'Oh, hey, she's with me.'

"The idea hit me," Collin continues, "I just realized that when she leaves this earth, she's going straight to Heaven. There's no stop-off point for that baby. She's the most perfect human being that I've ever encountered. How could she have ever sinned or even thought about anything bad? So she's perfect and clean. And at the gates of Heaven, I'm hoping she'll be standing there with me, and when He looks at me and says, 'I don't know bud, we got a lot to think about here before we let you step in.' ... I'm hoping because she was with me, and because I was her liaison in this world, that she'll be mine and get me into the gates of Heaven. I hope I can hold on to her little coattail, and let her say, 'Let him in, he's with me.'"

Collin says he wrote the song in a matter of just about 20 minutes.

"I was on an airplane," he says. "I don't write every week. I write when God gives me an idea that I think is worthy of working on. And I carried the idea around for about six months but I just didn't sit down to do it, and I waited until I was overwhelmed. And whenever I become overwhelmed, the song comes out fast ... my rhymes and my lyric, my poetry – it just comes out."

'She's With Me' is on Collin's new album, 'Never Going Back.'

I remember when his graddaughter was born, and I had no idea she had a serious disorder. So sad. Prayers to Collin and his family.

I lost my 5 year old son to an as yet undiagnosed neuro-degenerative disease. I admire Mr. Raye doing what he is doing to help his granddaughter. Like Mr.Raye, I strive daily to turn my son's tragedy into something positive by helping others like him.

On May 21, 2009, Congressman Carter proposed HR 2538: The Charles August 'CAL' Long Undiagnosed Diseases Registry Act of 2009 in honor of my son. If passed, this legislation would require the CDC to create a National Registry for Undiagnosed Medical Cases. The Registry would allow doctors and researchers to register their case(s) and seek out others like it, promoting communications amongst these doctors to hopefully solve some of these medical mysteries.

This Registry would help children like my son and Mr. Raye's granddaughter. If you want more information, feel free to email me at project_cal@att.net

For Dom and Natasha: Yes, we were all born with 'original sin', but there is also the issue of an 'age of accountability' where we pass into a stage where we now know the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. Children who die before they achieve this knowledge spend eternity in Heaven, and I believe the point here is that this child will probably never develop to the point of knowing the difference. Now as to whether Collin makes it himself is of course now purely his decision.

All of this biblical mumbo-jumbo, pearly gates and the ilk is completely nauseating complemented with people who have great difficulty spelling correctly and probably have posters of Britney Spears and Hannah Montana on their bedroom walls and think that Paris Hilton is the greatest thing since sliced bread. She isn't and doesn't have an iota of intelligence or talent.

Get a grip people, as well as a reality check. He's only a mediocre (at best) singer trying to get back into the limelight.

peg.... i bet he never forgot that. we all make mistakes. i reaped what i sow once. i ran my mouth about something and then when i got a child of my own i went through the very same thing that i ran my mouth about and said i wouldn't put up with it. it was like god was saying to me you won't huh? god sure does have a sense of humour. I'm glad god cared enough about me to give me that kind of lesson. i would rather be corrected here on earth by god in love then judged by him later with the world . God bless you all

Sorry Colin, but we were all born with original sin. No one is "perfect and clean." We are all dirty from the point we take our first breath, until God takes us from this earth, where we will face judgment. We *all* need to be forgiven of our sins, EVEN YOU. There will be no mercy for you after you die if you haven't asked God to forgive you of your sins. I am not apologizing for writing this, EVERYONE needs to know it. Now matter what you have done, God will forgive you if you ask because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross where he shed his blood. I don't judge anyone, I just tell the truth so your blood is not on my hands.

God Bless this man for recognizing what a wonderful gift God has given him in this grandchild. EVERYTHING happens for a reason. We all have special needs-its just that some of us have more trouble admitting our own.

I agree, there is no way god would punish a child to get back at a grand-parent. Some people are just ignorant, and have no idea what some hurtful words can do do to others, My prayers are with that little girl.

peg104m- please read-.

Ignorant - uneducated in general; lacking knowledge or sophistication; "an ignorant man"; "nescient of contemporary literature"; "an unlearned group incapable of understanding complex issues"; "exhibiting contempt for his unlettered companions"

My husband served in NAM. He died after 25 yrs. ofmarriage, after double above the knee amputation,14 yrs ago. 4 yrs. ago, our only son crossed 3 days before Katrina. My way of looking at it is this; God loves me so much He put their spirits in my life. What a love Jesus has for us to know, we will be with them someday....forever.AMEN
