Amy Speace Turns Heartache Into 'Killer' New Tune

Amy Speace has turned heartache into a dark and personal new album. 'The Killer in Me,' released on June 30, was born out of the death of the New York-based singer-songwriter's 10-year marriage, and written while she was holed up alone in a cabin in the Catskills.

"I kind of spilled blood all over this project," Speace says of her sophomore record. Speace's breakthrough effort, 'Songs For Bright Street,' was released in 2006.

The folk singer, who is now on tour in support of her latest music, recorded the album with producer Mitch Easter (R.E.M., Pavement) and her band, the Tearjerks. The lead track, also titled 'The Killer in Me,' is a twangy, bluesy tale of relationship troubles.

"I think of it as a love song," Speace says. "We're all looking for that mirror in our lovers, but sometimes what we see are the dark shadows of our own natures, and that's what we're attracted to."

Wow no wonder why I had never heard of her. Interesting lyrics, terrible singing, background singing, and music. Eeeeeeeeeeek.

When will I quit falling for these "headlines" about acts that could hardly be booked into my local bar? (Maybe the Ark in Ann Arbor, but I doubt it.)
