Gretchen Wilson Talks Tomboy Tendencies

Gretchen Wilson is more comfortable being known as a 'Redneck Woman' than as a girl's girl. The country star admits that while she enjoys some aspects of femininity, she's still a tomboy at heart.

"I don't think I am ever a girly-girl," Gretchen tells GAC. "I never wear pink. Never. I don't like to go shopping for clothes. Now, if you want to go to Home Depot or Lowe's and hang out all day, I can do that. I'll sit down and watch an episode of 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' and cry my eyes out while I am painting my toenails, so I can definitely be that kind of a girl, but I am not a girly-girl."

Perhaps that's due to the company she keeps. Gretchen became part of a mostly-boys club known as the MuzikMafia when she came into the Nashville music scene more than 10 years ago. Comprised of artists who had yet to secure record deals, the group of friends played all over town, leading to success for many of the original members, including James Otto, Big and Rich and Cowboy Troy. Drawing comparisons to another group known as 'The Outlaws,' which included Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Waylon's wife Jessi Colter, Gretchen acknowledges one big difference between the two: "Then I am the Jessi Colter of the Mafia bunch," she says. "But I haven't married any of them yet!"

Gretchen is working on a new album, scheduled to be released by the end of the year. Her debut album, 'Here for the Party,' was recently certified double platinum.

This is to all of you that have these immature comments. If you dont llike Gretchen Wilson, or any singer; in fact all enntertainers?, fine, that is your giving right to express that you dont like something. But to lleave comments liks she is a "skank", or a tomboy just for a piece of a@@, she is built like a man like Wynonna...that is all comments that fall under immaturity or just jelously of this woman.

If you dont like her, fine leave it as you dont like her or the music, but dont go below that with these stupid comments, only makes you look below standards.

She's built like a dude, just like Wynonna of the Judds. To each their own I say, but anything is better than being a dimwitted, can't help herself bimbo who thinks their sexy. I always thought Marilyn Monroe was beautiful but the 'I'm stupid but sexy' act is lame..& it showed by the men who slept with her & quickly lost interest. Not much under the image?

As for the country singer...she's not a girly girl. She lookes like a dykey girl, or maybe a cowey girl. She's certainly not feminine so who cares what she looks like or considers herself.

I keep reading all these comments about how Gretchen Wislon is such a great singer, etc. Actually, in the overall picture, Wilson is not at all an accomplished artist. Her style is unsophisticated and commercial, and her talent is miniscule compared to female singer with true talent. However, it takes small minds to support such forgettable, plebian nothings. Such is the tenor of country western in general, which explains a lot. She can't even get being a female correct.
