Story Behind the Song: 'I'm Alive,' Kenny Chesney & Dave Matthews

Kenny Chesney talked to The Boot about the new hit he released to radio this week, featuring his buddy Dave Matthews.

The most personal song (on the 'Greatest Hits II' album) is 'I'm Alive,' just because of where I was in my life when I wrote it ... I wrote 'I'm Alive' after my breakup with Renée [Zellweger]. I woke up one day and realized, even though I'm going through all this stuff and don't feel good about it, the outer shell of my life is really great. I'm alive; I get to make music; I've got a lot of great friends. That's the message of the song.

MY SON FLEW MILES TO SURPRISE ME TO TAKE ME TO A RECENT KENNY CHESNEY CONCERT HERE WHERE I LIVE. THE BEST PART OF THAT CONCERT WAS THE PURE LOOK OF JOY ON KENNY'S FACE - HE WAS SO HAPPY TO BE THERE!!!!

HIS NEWEST ALBUM IS GREAT, THE ONE WITH WILLIE IS AMAZING - A CONG FROM MY YOUNGER YEARS! AND THE ONE WITH DAVE MATTHEWS (WHO MY SON TOOK ME TO SEE IN CONCERT WHERE HE LIVES) IS ALSO MEANINGFUL, AS I HAVE BEEN THROUH IT ALL MYSELF, STILL GOING THROUGH IT! THIS IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF ALL OUR LIVES, AND I PRAY WE MAKE IT RIGHT THIS TIME!!! LOVE TO ALL THE COUNTRY AND GOD LOVERS IN THE WORLD!!!!!
