Confederate Railroad's Gates Nichols Dies

Warren "Gates" Nichols, a former member of the ACM Award-winning group Confederate Railroad, died Friday, Aug. 14, at Hospice Tranquility in Austell, Ga. The 65-year-old musician was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just about a month ago.

In addition to playing steel guitar for Confederate Railroad on such early-'90s hits as 'Queen of Memphis' and the Grammy nominated 'Trashy Women,' Nichols played bass guitar on the 1976 pop hit 'Shannon,' by Henry Gross.

According to his daughter, Brittney Humes, Nichols retired from Confederate Railroad in 2008 to devote more time to church and family. "To be honest, he wanted to work and praise Jesus," Ms. Humes told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He was excited about being able to play more in the church, and that's what he was doing."

"He was an all-around musician," says Confederate Railroad founder Danny Shirley. "And he played with us for 17 years. Not only did he play steel guitar, he was a bass player, trombone player and keyboard player."

I always knew Gates Nichols as Warren Nicoles. My husband, Skip Juried, Producer/Recording Engineer/Composer and Musician was the God Father of one of Warren's children. Skip and Warren were like brothers . They were both brought up in Long Island, NY. Skip introduced and brought Warren into playing on sessions in NYC. Warren was extremely gifted by being able to play several instruments. He had the most hilarious laugh I've ever heard. I'd like to think that both Skip and Warren are togehter singing and playing their tunes to their hearts content!

Saw CRR back in 1992, 1994 and most recent for me in 2005. All the guys in the band were down to earth and made time to talk to their fans. RIP Gates you're gonna be missed.

RIP Mr Gates. I did not know he played guitar on the song SHANNON for Henry Gross. Being Irish, I always loved that song. In fact, we named our daughter Shannon after that song so she would have a strong Irish name. Well, the band in rock n' roll heaven just gained a new member. Hope to hear you play with them one day.

Just a comment that is actually quite simple, but really helped me. Sometimes, its the simple and clear statements that can heal us , and helps us understand difficult things.
We must try to remember , that if we only understood, that our loved ones who have passed on are much better off now, and that it is the living that we must pray for. If you only really understood ,you would not feel sorry or sad for them. It is a temporary thing of which we must go through to complete our cycle of life. Just as the many things in nature that surround us everyday, it all shows us examples of how it works, and yet we must not forget how important we all are in the eyes of God. He truly loves all of us, as a parent loves his own child, we are often disappointed by our children as they go through the different stages of life, and mature into an adult.
Life is our time to grow, and walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. A bright light in the midst of total darkness. Our loved ones are never very far away.
Trust in him, for he is the way the truth and the life. There could not possibly be any other, Just sit and think about it for a moment, what is the likely hood that all of this is an accident, or better yet, the precision of all that is amazing and wondrous. Life , what a blessing.
Thank GOD.

Whatever-most of you imbeciles either don't know how to type-or spell-or have a clear thought in your head. Sheep, lemmings, all followers who don't have a clue. What you have read and learned over time is the "stories" that have been told and retold...and even made-up over time. Wake-up, or rather go back to sleep-and stay in your zombie-like existence. He's dead-get over it! Think about it...one less person we have to deal with in regard to the awesome healthplan and health coverage that our awesome President Obama is going to pass for us...all of us...the US! Amen.

Everyone who dies doesnt go to heaven. Everytime someone dies its not Satan everytime. I know plenty of Christians and Pastors who have passed away, Satan had nothing to do with those deaths. Everyone has a time to go, we just dont know when or how. My point is to the people saying God called him home. If he didnt repent of his sins and wasnt saved he is going to hell. I dont care how nice a person is. You dont go to heavfen unless you repent of your sins and accept Jesus as your lord and saviour. So unless you personally know this nobody you cant say where he went. Its all in the Holy Bible that so many people claim to live by and understand. A lot of you on here are just religous not spiritual. Religion is doing the same thing over and over again like some type of ritual or tradition. You can be religous and not be right with God. WORKS WITHOUT FATIH IS DEAD. Just being a nice guy doesnt cut it. If you dont have your spirit right with God its nothing but a trip to hell. Dont kill the messenger its in the Bible.

Hixx the Bible says we all are appointed once to
die and then the judgement. You sound like a
lost atheist. Don't judge Christianity until you
try it.
