With the recent departure of Paula Abdul, 'American Idol' producers are calling on various celebrities to fill her seat at auditions for the show's upcoming season. R&B superstar Mary J. Blige, former Spice Girl Victoria "Posh" Beckham and pop star Katy Perry are already on board to be guest judges, and joining that roster just may be Shania Twain. PEOPLE's TV Watch is reporting that Shania is in talks to join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi at the judges' table during auditions in Chicago on Aug. 30 and 31. If she does, this could be the start of the country singer's big comeback. She's been on hiatus from the spotlight for several years, raising her son and then nursing her wounds from a painful divorce. But Shania assures fans she is working on new music and has even hinted at a future tour.
"Time has a way of making everything right, and it is my hope that good music will eventually come out of it," she writes in an open letter to fans on her website. "I say 'good music' since I don't want to just throw anything at you, just for the sake of hurrying up to get it out. I want my new music to be something I'm personally satisfied with and proud to share with you."
Shania's last studio album, 'Up,' was released in 2002. She moved from Nashville to Switzerland shortly after to concentrate on being a mom and wife.
Shania and famed producer Robert "Mutt" Lange announced their separation in May 2008, after 14 years of marriage. Mutt is accused of having an affair with a close family friend, but he denies the allegations.
