Carrie Underwood Offers Hometown a Helping Hand

Carrie Underwood's hometown of Checotah, Okla., is getting a boost from the singer herself with the formation of C.A.T.S. -- the Checotah Animal, Town and School Foundation.

The goal of the foundation is to help with general causes, needs and services in the area of Checotah which will directly impact the community. Checotah has a population of around 3,500.

"My hometown is extremely supportive of me and I feel blessed to be able to create something as a way of giving back; to say thank you," says the country idol.

Private resources will fund the assistance, and information on the C.A.T.S. Foundation's first donation to the Checotah community are expected to be announced soon.

Checotah, Oklahoma, is also the hometown of Carrie's fellow Grand Ole Opry member, Mel McDaniel.

I am impressed personally but not surprised. For several years going to our state fair meant you would see a young blond teenage girl from Checotah belting out country songs I really wasn't into but enjoyed as she put her heart and soul into them. An entertainer is rated by how many enjoy the rendition of the song that they have in many cases not themdelves chosen. I am proud to say I have an early (in her teens) CD of some of her expresions. She has come a long way.

Oh, for God's sake, IClark, get with the program here. Not every story that appears relates directly back to your political views. How totally lame of you to mention Ted Kennedy when this article is about a young lady who is doing some good in this world. UGH!!

Yeah but you know Rich they start teaching spelling in kindergarten here in OK where Carrie is from(I live only about 40 miles from her hometown). So sad they didn't wherever it is you're at. Hope the education there gets better in the near future.

This folks is normal. A celeb giving back to American and her community. Unlike citizens of the world Branglina. Carrie is a real American unlike the skanks in hollyweird that tout other countries Carrie is helping America, not far more corrupt countries. Good for you Ms. Underwood, YOU are a true American unlike the elitists that are so phoney and want to hold America hostage like bradley pitt, yes he is the pitts. A sorry piece of humanity.

Stongly disagree there, Carrie has a great talent. Not only is she a great singer, but she gives back as well, making her an even better American Idol.

When she was on Idol, I thought it was fixed and after listening to her latest and greatest hits, I still believe she just doesn't cut it. This is a no talent gal made by Idol.
