Billy Ray Cyrus skyrocketed into the country music scene in 1991 with 'Achy Breaky Heart,' and -- all jokes aside -- he is convinced that the tune that made him famous is still a hit. Approaching the 20-year anniversary of 'Achy Breaky,' he reveals to CNN that "there are some major stars who want to re-do that song." And while the singer has not officially agreed to let someone else record it, he says, "I'm flirting with the idea. There's one cat in particular that if I told you who it was, it would blow your mind. But I've got to keep it under my hat right now."BRC, the suspicion is killing us!
What Billy Ray will talk about is his wildly successful career since his radio breakthrough, including two platinum albums, ten Top 20 singles and a thriving acting career in both TV and film. Most important to him, however, is being Dad to five children who are all involved in the entertainment business, including teen sensation Miley Cyrus. It was Miley's career that took the Cyrus family from Tennessee to California. And as much as Billy Ray misses the south, he admits that the acting bug has bitten him so hard, that he's happy being on the west coast now.
"I look back at it now and think that I may fit in more to the film community than I do Nashville, to tell you the truth," he admits. "I love what I do. I love Hollywood. Getting to work with George Lopez and Jackie Chan in this new film we have coming out in January ['The Spy Next Door'], working with Heather Locklear and Patricia Neal in the Lifetime movie 'Flying By,' and Brooke Shields, who has appeared as my deceased wife on 'Hannah Montana.'
But Billy Ray isn't ditching his musical roots. He's more about combining his career paths these days. He wrote 'Back to Tennessee' for the 'Hannah Montana' movie soundtrack and hopes to write scores for more movies in the future.
