Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles Celebrates Her Gay Fans

Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles is out and proud of her fans, no matter what their sexual orientation. When asked if she knows about her gay and lesbian fan base, the singer told ChicagoPride.com, "I've been aware even before Sugarland. I've actually performed at Gay Pride in Atlanta three times in my career. I've always had a large gay following, particularly in the lesbian community. I am grateful for that. To me, it means my music transcends categories. It also means that I'm a cute girl singing a rock song in an alto voice!"

Jennifer insists that she and singing partner Kristian Bush just set out to make music that "celebrates the human condition" -- no matter what age, race, sexual preference ... or hometown!

"I had a friend write me that our music was being played at Gay Pride in New York, which is a big compliment," she said. "In the biggest city in the country with the most culture and the most grit -- I love it."

Sugarland is celebrating their recent debut at No. 1 on the charts with their live CD/DVD set, 'Live on the Inside.'

Wow...Just WOW. Reading the comments, this is why I don't believe in religion, don't agree with it. No where in the bible does it say to persecute people. Small minded, bible thumpers are the reason gay people are so defensive. We love and live just the same as you. Surprisingly enough, we're humans too! Instead of throwing your opinions and beliefs around, mind your own business. Who cares if Jennifer Nettles appreciates her gay fans...hell, who cares if she's gay. Good for her, she knows who she is, and is comfortable in her own skin. This, is why I love her more. :)

Ok - wait. Is she a lesbian now? The first line of this story is 'Jennifer Nettles is out and...'. Is this confirmation?

No problem at all with her being a lesbian but it's a surprise. I'm a guy who thinks she's a sexy and pretty and talented, in that order.

If she's announcing herself I guess it's open season for her. Bet she's got girls coming at her from everywhere.

not to mention she (JeN) has personally dated and been with women!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She just doesn't talk about it now...... PR and crap....... just as this page has shown if she herself came out as 'gay' a lot of her fan base would prob not listen any more. Its sad living in a shell thats not your own.

I commend Jennifer Nettles for celebrating us! As an openly gay woman, I think it's about time that country music got on board with the rest of the music world. I have always been a big fan of Sugarland and even more so now! I love her bravery, especially these days when it seems like one minute you have a huge following and the next minute half of them turn away because they dont agree with your beliefs..Well I say ROCK ON Sugarland!!! And PooPoo on you Naysayers!! I love you Jennifer Nettles you big homo lover you! Lol..

1.Why is sugarland even considered a dou? All Nettles sings is girlie songs and is pretty much a solo artist in my opinion.2. Yeah thats right support the sexually perverted and sick people of the world that will make you famous.I know longer have any tolernece for sugarland.

Why is it that backwoods, podunk, inbred, redneck JERKS like you have to say such wicked things to make themselves feel better? Oh wait, I get it, you are one of those people that does it in private.Like in cheap motels and back alleys and then goes to church on sunday and rebukes it in the name of jesus! You know what they say, "People who live in glass houses should not throw stones"...I am a God fearing gay christian who wants to get married and have children...I am a normal person just like everyone else. So leave my gay family alone, and leave Jennifer Nettles alone too!

My heart breaks for you. I don't know how you can say you are 'God fearing" and ignore what He says in His Word about homosexuality. We all need to repent from our sins (turn away from and stop committing them). That is what it means to be God fearing. Unlike some horrible people who call themselves Christians, I don't hate gay people or believe they should be persecuted in any way, but I do believe I should declare what the Bible says about sin...especially to those who believe in Jesus themselves. Those who don't believe won't care about what the Bible says anyway. My prayers are with you.

To me it says alot when Sugarland stands up for there fans.Any one who stands up for there friends are true to the heart.Very Honable.I beleave Reaba done the same thing.Im not gay but I've been to gay bars with my wife and we have the best service.Thanks Sugarland&Reaba for being you.
