Blake Shelton Taunts PETA with Tweets

Blake Shelton and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have been locked in something of a bitter Twitter battle lately. Blake, who's notorious for his frequent -- and frequently sarcastic -- Twitter updates, directed a few choice 'tweets' at the animal-activists group recently, with his comments resulting in his getting banned from receiving the group's updates on the social-networking site.

According to the Ada Evening News, the hometown newspaper of the Oklahoma-born singer (and avid hunter), Blake's irreverent humor in his Twitter remarks ruffled a few PETA feathers. One PETA tweet which read: "Animal testing breaks hearts," prompted Blake to respond: "Yeah, and bow hunting breaks their lungs!" Another PETA tweet which read: "There's nothing funny about BBQing cats," got this rapid reply from Blake: "Ha! Ha! Sorry but when you say it like that it, is damn funny! Ha!"

And we don't know whether he's joking about this or not, but another recent tweet from Blake asked: "Y'all know of any other tree hugging, bunny lovin' groups I can irritate?"

In spite of being blocked from receiving their tweets, the war of words (limited to 140 characters or less) resumed. When a fan commented that they thought Blake had been banned from tweeting PETA, he replied, "As it turns out I'm really all they have."

So far, girlfriend/hunter/animal lover Miranda Lambert hasn't said much about the feud on her Twitter page, but we're pretty sure we haven't heard the last from Blake!

I'm an animals rights activist, but I think PETA goes way overboard with things and gives us a bad name. Either way, they were tweeting to their followers, not trying to offend Mr. Shelton on purpose, which just goes to show much of a jackass he really is. Way to go.

jrd000000001 ...if everyone treated their "food sources" with compassion then there would be no reason for meat to skyrocket because no one would be eating it. Most people involved in PETA are vegans....which means they eat no animal bi-products what-so-ever.

And to be honest, I think Blake is being a complete ass. PETA believes in saving animals and keeping them safe while Blake believes in killing them. Get over it. Everyone has different views and people need to respect others views.

vtracy95, before 1940 the animals were hunted and killed and eaten, without government intervention. I am a native american, I hunt and eat what I hunt, as my fathers before me did, does that make me an ignorant savage like my redneck brothers, in your opinion. You are a racist liberal in mine. I ride a Harley and wear leather, would you dare to throw paint on me. You think it is better for peta to slaughter many animals and throw them into dumpsters, than for a hunter to slaughter only what he needs to eat. You are an insane racist liberal. You do not understand the circle of life. You do not understand the balance of nature. Nan, even modern man in his cities, is a part of nature, a predator.

PETA started with a good idea but it has exceeded it's first thoughts. It is now concerned with ALL animals - not just the ones killed for fur.
There is a whole area in California that is suffering from drought conditions and farmers are out of work.
All because a tiny fish that someone - not sure if Peta but it sounds it - doesn't want farmer's pumps - used for irrigation - to kill it.
This fish is NOT endangered but the courts told farmers they couldn't irrigate.
And people wonder why food prices go up.
Pretty soon we'll import food from China along with our goods (among other places) and money.
Common sense is becoming uncommon rapidly - in government!

PETA seems to attracts loons and the organization ends up making more people refuse to take the idea of "animal rights" seriously since it often appears that only fanatically bizarre people promote the idea. They select their targets of abuse so ridiculously that if they were ever right about something, who'd be able to tell!
