Trace Adkins to Sing at 9/11 Memorial

On the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the U.S., Trace Adkins will perform the national anthem at a special service honoring the 40 fallen passengers and crew members of United Airlines flight 93. The tribute will be held at the site of the plane crash near Shanksville, Penn.

"It's the least we can do and the least that we should do to try to help out in some way," Trace tells KXMB radio.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell will act as keynote speaker for the event. He joined Trace earlier this year at the National Memorial Day concert honoring the military in Washington, DC. Trace closed the event with a performance of 'Till the Last Shot Is Fired.'

The singer, whose performances for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan earned him the USO Merit Award in 2007, is currently hard at work on a new album and will star in the upcoming film, 'Lifted,' due in theaters next year.
