With a tour just underway to support the Sept. 29 release of 'Mountain Soul II,' Patty Loveless is taking the opportunity to spotlight the Christian Appalachian Project. By logging on to their official website, visitors can make a donation to the organization and also receive a free download of a track from 'Mountain Soul II,' the traditional gospel tune, 'Working on a Building.' A coal miner's daughter (like her distant cousin Loretta Lynn), Patty grew up in Pikeville, Ky., so the music and people of Appalachia have always been important to her.
Earlier this year, ABC's Diane Sawyer hosted the '20/20' special, 'A Hidden America, Children of the Mountains,' spotlighting the challenges faced by the people in the region. Donations to the Christian Appalachian Project will help bring change to the lives of the impoverished men, women and children of Appalachia, providing meals, shelter, and much more.
Patty's first 'Mountain Soul' album, returning the country star to her bluegrass and gospel roots, was released in 2001. 'Mountain Soul II' is the singer's second release for the Saguaro Road label. Her first, 'Sleepless Nights,' released last year, was nominated for a Grammy.
