Emmylou Harris Receives Honorary Doctorate

Emmylou HarrisJust call her Dr. Harris. Emmylou Harris was recently presented with an honorary doctorate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. The 12-time Grammy winner received her award on Sunday (Oct. 4), and was joined by fellow musicians Earl Scruggs and Linda Rondstadt.

Berklee College of Music President Roger Brown had high praise for the music legend. "Not only is Emmylou Harris a consummate musician, an inspired songwriter and a singer with a crystalline voice, she has also been a friend, mentor, collaborator and supporter of many wonderful musicians throughout her career," Brown said, according to Nashville's Tennessean newspaper.

Emmylou was valedictorian of her high-school class in Woodbridge, Va. She won a drama scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and dropped out to attend Boston University. She then left college altogether to pursue her music career full-time.
