Keith Anderson, Caitlin & Will Part With Label

Keith Anderson and duo Caitlin & Will are the latest artists to leave the Sony Nashville Music label. They follow Jessica Simpson, Pat Green and Gretchen Wilson, who all split with the label this summer.

Keith's 2008 album, 'C'mon,' on the Sony BMG imprint Columbia Records, reached No. 3 on the charts and featured the No. 2 hit, 'I Still Miss You.' His follow-up singles, 'Somebody Needs a Hug' and 'She Could've Been Mine,' stalled at No. 46 and No. 56, respectively. Keith was previously signed to Arista Nashville, which released his debut single, the Top 10 hit, 'Pickin' Wildflowers.'

Caitlin Lynn and Will Snyder, the winners of CMT's 'Can You Duet' were signed to Columbia and had started work on their debut album. In March of this year, they released a six-song digital EP with their debut single 'Address in the Stars.' The single peaked at No. 42. The duo's full-length album was to be titled 'Dark Horse.'

I don't think it's a matter of music quality as much terms of contract. Unfortunately, labels are notorious for stifling talent more than encouraging it. These days with technology barely even dreamed of just a few years back, large labels are almost irrelevant, their market share quickly retreating, in fact, most consumers these days neither listen to the radio OR CDs. It's all internet, downloads and iPods, and a multiplicity of talent unheard of in recorded and transmitted music only a generation ago. Sony and their ilk are grasping at straws. They know it.

Hmmmm....could it be that the reason their songs aren't doing better on the charts is that the quality of their music just isn't that great? I guess it's just easier to blame the music label than admit you're not as talented as someone else......

Nice - checked your site... your comments ring true...
You have to promote yourself, or sit around doing nothing... or barely nothing...

The music world is changing drastically. There is so much great talent out there that needs to be heard. Artists today need to be constantly reminded that with the onslaught of online technology a whole new world of promise is open to those willing to independently promote themselves. Most important of all....never give up. Persistence is the grease that oils the wheel of success...everytime.
